'MacGyver' Season 5 Episode 7 Spoilers: What is Mac's secret? Desi finds out why his old friend Frankie is back
Spoilers for 'MacGyver' Season 5 Episode 7 'Golden Lancehead + Venom + Pole Vault + Blood + Baggage'
Season 5 Episode 7 titled 'Golden Lancehead + Venom + Pole Vault + Blood + Baggage' sees Angus "Mac" MacGyver (Lucas Till) keeping a secret from his girlfriend Desi Nguyen (Levy Tran). Apparently, his "Thursday morning jogs" are bogus and nobody can fool Desi that easily. While we did hold our breath for the sneak peek, wondering if there is infidelity going on, it turns out it's much more serious than we thought.
After tailing him and then calling him to see him lying, Desi realizes that there is more at stake in this, and being mad at Mac won't cut it. Mac reveals to Desi that before his father died, he was looking into some experimental cancer treatments and the place she caught him at is a medical research laboratory. As of now, research at a lab is happening 24/7, thanks to an angel investor. You may be wondering why Frankie is back? We'll tell you, but what we're interested in is why did Mac keep this a secret from Desi? Also, how can you be mad at someone who barely has any free time, but still manages to help trying to figure out how to cure cancer?

Who is Frankie?
Rosalind Franklin “Frankie” Mallory played by Aly Michalka is an old friend of Mac's. The duo had met at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and they helped each other on thesis and proof-readings. If you're a huge fan of the show, you'd remember Frankie from Season 1 Episode 19 titled 'Compass', where Mac finds out that Frankie had been killed in a lab explosion. Mac even goes to Boston for Frankie's memorial and even admits to Jack Dalton (George Eads) at the time that he had had a crush on Frankie when they were at MIT.
While at the memorial, the duo finds out that Dr Vanketesh, Frankie's supervisor, was killed in a car crash. While they investigate her death, they find out that the explosion wasn't an accident. Surprise! Instead, it was a bomb that had been planted in her private lab.
Frankie is, of course, later found in the tunnels under MIT. She had staged her death because the person that killed Dr Vanketesh was also looking to kill her and disrupt her project of identifying DNA samples from cold cases. Interestingly enough, at the time, the killer turned out to be the man that had funded Frankie’s research project, Richard Sang (François Chau). Frankie has a Double Major in Mechanical Engineering and Biology Expert in DNA so it would make a lot of sense that she is helping Mac with the experimental cancer treatments.
The synopsis of the episode reads, "The secret experimental cancer treatment Mac's developing with a friend is discovered when culprits ransack their lab, kidnap Mac's partner, and plan to use the research to create a powerful new nerve agent."
