In shocking news from Texas, a man frantically stabbed his 16-month-old toddler to death in front of horrified neighbors, who tried to intervene and stop him, according to police reports. The incident occurred after the said neighbor woke up to the commotion outside his apartment building, he came out and saw that a man was trying to stab a toddler in the apartment building courtyard using a knife.

Police officials said that the man was shot at the Oak Forrest Apartments in Lewisville on Sunday afternoon by the neighbor who grabbed a firearm and took aim at the man to prevent further injuries to the child. Reports state that the child succumbed to his injuries and later died at a hospital.

The man was eventually arrested by responding officers, according to the New York Post. Capt. Jesse Hunter, in a news release, said that the neighbor, who fired the shot, will not face any criminal charges.

Hunter, on Monday, said that the identities of the father and child have been withheld for security reasons and that there were no previous police records of any incidents at the apartment. The official added that there were not any previous reports involving Child Protective Services either.

An eyewitness, identified as Edward Carranza, said that he was sleeping when he heard multiple people screaming. He initially ignored the commotion, but then he heard three or four gunshots which jolted him up. He went outside and saw the perpetrator holding the child and standing in a "big pool of blood."

Carranza told The Post: "He had an evil look. The look that he had in his eyes was not a normal look."

The neighbor added that the man was screaming repeatedly and then he tossed the child onto the concrete before stabbing him multiple times with a pair of scissors and knife. One of the residents in the building quickly grabbed a recycling bin and threw it at the man to stop him but it failed, it was then when another neighbor went inside his apartment and came out with a gun and opened fire at the man.

Carranza said: "He was trying to get people to come toward him. He was screaming, ‘Come on, come out here’ again and again to try to get people to come to see what he was doing."

Reports state that the attack occurred when the toddler's mother was at work. She was later interviewed by detectives. One of the witnesses said that the father was yelling "Jesus is coming," while trying to stab the child.

The officials arrested the boy's father, and he was expected to be booked into a jail in Lewisville late Sunday. The charges he is facing is not yet clear as investigators are waiting for toxicology results, reports state.
