After the bloodbath and horror that the first season of 'Lovecraft Country' was, the finale is finally here and it looks like there will be everything we have waited for. Our protagonist Atticus Freeman (Jonathan Majors) goes to deliver on his promise of helping Christina Braithwaite's (Abbey Lee) Autumnal Equinox ritual where she plans on turning immortal. The ritual will need Tic's blook because of his bloodline, and based on what Christina had told Ruby, she will need all of his blood, potentially killing him and making Ji-Ah's prophecy and claims of George's book come true. But is there a way for Tic to come out alive from the ritual? Because the trailer suggests a few tricks up his sleeve.

When the trailer begins, it's obvious Tic is in Ardham. He has gone to help Christina turn immortal, as she can be seen flipping through the book of names. The trailer, that keeps putting Atticus in the face of danger every now and then, also shows Diana Freeman (Jada Harris) recovering from the curse, but for how long she will be safe is a solid question. When we meet Diana next, she is on the verge of being attacked by a Shoggoth, those mammoth monsters from Episode 1 that the Lovecraftian world of horror is known for and sprinkled with. At the end of the eighth episode, when the cops attacked Leti's (Jurnee Smollett) home, Tic was able to cast a protection spell that involved another of those Shoggoths to hunt the White policemen down. So that says something about Tic's control over the Shoggoths, the same kind that Christina was able to exercise herself, but using a high pitched whistle.

So when the trailer shows Tic pulling on a trap door spewing out red light resembling a volcano underneath, and he says there's something he wants to show Christina who's standing right next to him, there's a high chance he is invoking another one of those Shoggoths. True, the castle at Ardham is protected by Tic's magic spell, but Shoggoths are known to habit the area anyway. And with Tic's recently learned powers, he can control one easily it seems. The only catch here is that Christina too isn't a stranger to these creatures; whether she can control them without a whistle is unknown, but she too knows magic. And she too is a Braithwaite, even if not Titus' direct descendant. That puts Tic in a bit of a spot.

That said, Christina's counterpart, who is called Caleb in the original book by Matt Ruff, is hunted down by the Freeman. Whether or not Misha Green's HBO adaptation will stick to that ending isn't certain, but if Atticus comes out alive, the course of history will definitely change, and that means probably new horrors on the horizon for his and Leti's unborn child.

'Lovecraft Country' finale airs on Sunday, October 18, at 9 pm only on HBO.
