Love Wedding Repeat: Olivia Munn on how acting in film 'Deliver us from Evil' made her believe in supernatural

Olivia Munn's upcoming Netflix rom-com 'Love Wedding Repeat' is a touching tale of a brother trying to ensure his little sister has the perfect wedding day as he goes through alternate versions of the same ceremony. But this mix of what is usually called a comedy of errors where everything goes horrifyingly wrong shouldn't come as a difficult thing to portray for Munn, who has somewhat claimed in the past that she lives in a haunted house. Years ago, in 2014, when Munn starred in the horror flick 'Deliver Us from Evil', something about the movie worked its magic the way it's supposed to and turned Munn a believer in supernatural and demonic entities. A horrifying wedding f**k up is the last thing giving Munn difficulties.

Back in 2014, in an interview with Refinery 29, Munn shared about the "haunted" house she lived in then. At the time, the horror movie borrowed from headlines had just released, and in due course of the interview, Munn admitted: "I definitely believe in ghosts and spirits." The reason? "Things are always happening in my house," she told the outlet, adding: "Just last week, I was sitting in bed, and my front door just opens on its own. I have these sensors that announced 'front door,' and I went to my security footage, and you can see it just open with no one there. That kind of stuff happens a lot."

Casual as Munn might seem about these eerie occurrences at her abode, she had a good reason to be so at peace with the possibility of being haunted. "It used to scare me a lot until I talked to a medium. She said that they were good spirits, and not to worry," she had explained. But while the supposed entities in her place weren't able to scare her, the horror film where she played the protagonist's wife definitely managed to scare her enough to turn a firm believer in evil spirits.

The 2014 horror followed the 'true story' of NYPD sergeant Ralph Sarchie (played by Eric Bana), who is left unraveled amid an investigation involving demonic possessions and disturbing murders. The film is based on the book 'Beware the Night', co-written by Sarchie himself, with the "memoir" chronicling his work as a demonologist. In the movie, Munn plays the role of Sarchie's wife, Jen, who witnesses her husband go through the dark, gritty impact of the case as it slowly begins to consume him emotionally. While the genre is definitely not for everyone, even Munn - a self-proclaimed horror enthusiast - was left completely perturbed by the truth behind the film's plot. And even more so, by the full-length feature because of how scary the on-screen adaptation of the reality was.

"Getting to see Sarchie's actual footage of the real exorcism he witnessed was the scariest part [of filming]," Munn told the outlet, adding: "That definitely kept me from sleeping for about a week; it's so intense. I'm actually kind of nervous about watching the full movie at the premiere — it's so scary, I'm hoping I don't scream too loud." With plenty of instances surrounding possessed children, ritualistic sacrifices and even dark magic, Munn asserts how there's credibility to these things. "I believe that evil does exist in our world. I think we all have our moments of struggle," she had shared with the outlet. But at the same time, shining a beacon of hope, she reflects: "I like to think that the good is winning overall — sometimes evil has to get really strong and make a statement because it's losing."

Directed by Dean Craig, 'Love Wedding Repeat' premieres on Friday, April 10, only on Netflix. Sam Claflin, Aisling Bea, and Eleanor Tomlinson also star in the romantic comedy.
