LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Actress Elizabeth Olsen is starring as Candace 'Candy' Montgomery in 'Love & Death', an HBO Max true crime miniseries which is going to explore the life of Candy Montgomery, the woman who was accused of murdering her lover's wife Betty Gore with an axe.

After the trial that lasted eight days, the jury that consisted of nine women and three men found Candy Montgomery not guilty on October 30, 1980. The HBO limited series is based on the book 'Evidence of Love: A True Story of Passion and Death in the Suburbs', as well as a collection of Texas Monthly articles ('Love & Death in Silicon Prairie', Part I & II).

Did Candace Montgomery remarry?

According to the Dallas Morning News, Candace Montgomery, Pat Montgomery's wife, stated after the murder trial that she wanted to put all of it behind her so things could be normal again. Candy Montgomery became a certified family counselor after the Montgomery family relocated to Georgia. According to some reports, Pat and Candy Montgomery filed for divorce a few years later, and she did not remarry, going by her maiden name Candace Wheeler.

Candy is now working as a mental health counselor or therapist, according to reports. Even though the word of her affair had leaked, her ex-husband was a firm supporter of her throughout the murder trial, turning up every day. The electrical engineer has mostly avoided the spotlight.

Candace Montgomery’s ‘boring’ marriage to Pat Montgomery

Candace Wheeler, a secretary at the time, married Pat Montgomery, an electrical engineer, in the early 1970s, and the couple had two children. They relocated to Collin County, Texas in 1977 and attended the Lucas Methodist Church regularly. According to various reports, the Montgomery family led a comfortable life, with Pat earning $70,000 having to work on military radar systems at TI, and Candy remaining at home to care for the children.

But Candy was 'bored crazy' at home, and she and Pat had been arguing quite often since moving to Collin County, where they met Allan and Betty Gore. Candy and Pat had an argument, which led to Candy having an extramarital affair with Allan Gore for ten months, which apparently added excitement to her otherwise mundane life. Candy's relationship with Pat resumed normalcy after her affair with Allan Gore ended, and the pair decided to attend the marriage-counseling program 'Marriage Encounter' but went their separate ways after the trial ended.

Hulu’s ‘Candy’ starring Jessica Biel, Melanie Lynskey, Pablo Schrieber, and Timothy Simons is another series that focused on the Candace Montgomery case.

‘Love and Death’ will premiere on April 27, 2023, on HBO Max.
