'Love 101' Season 1 Ending Explained: Will we find out what happened to the group's friendship in Season 2?
Spoiler Alert for Season 1 of 'Love 101'/'Aşk 101'
'Love 101,' also known as 'Aşk 101' is Netflix's third Turkish original series after 'The Protector' and 'The Gift', and it looks like Netflix potentially has another hit on its hands. The teen drama is set primarily in 1998 and tells the story of five teenagers who scheme to keep their favorite teacher in Istanbul by making her fall in love with the school's basketball coach.
Four of these teens are misfits: Kerem (Kubilay Aka), Eda (Alina Boz), Osman (Selahattin Paşalı), and Sinan (Mert Yazıcıoğlu). All come from different circles and none of them are friends — but they all get into trouble repeatedly.
All four have gone to the school board multiple times on the threat of expulsion. In the first episode of 'Love 101', these students are asked to behave but in one way or another, they do things separately that end up nearly burning down the school.
The head of the school and most teachers have had enough and they are ready to expel them. The only person who saves them is Ms Burcu (Pinar Deniz), the vice principal. She is the only one who stands between them and expulsion yet again.
When they get the news that Burcu is set to be transferred at the end of the school year, the four misfits decide to work together. However, they realize neither of them knows anything about love, so they rope in Isik (İpek Filiz Yazıcı) who loves romantic movies and love in general.
They come up with the plan to make Burcu fall in love with someone and make her want to stay in Istanbul and just as they struggle to find a candidate to pair her with, in walks Kemal (Kaan Urgancıoğlu), the new basketball coach.
Over the course of the first season, the five teenagers grow close to each other. But in the present, it seems that somewhere along the way, they separated due to some event. We hoped we would get to see what that was in the first season, but it wasn't shown.
We were sure the event would be when the five of them were forced to apologize in front of the school for the destruction of the lab — which was mostly not their fault. Perhaps while others refused to apologize, one would just care about themselves. But all of them stood together, and they got expelled together.
The show also weaves to the present where they show a grown-up Isik waiting for the others to show up. It is clear that something untoward has happened. She writes letters to each of them and we see glimpses of where the others could have ended up.
One shot even shows that one of the boys might have grown up to be a criminal.
At the end of the season, both Kemal and Burcu also found out what happened. While Kemal seems okay with it, Burcu seems upset.
Whatever happened, it must have been really serious. We see grown-up Isik break down into tears and grown-up Eda continuously chastising herself for ruining things. What exactly happened?
We're not sure, but we hope Netflix renews the show for a second season so that we can find out.
