Louisville mass shooting: Four dead, eight injured including police officer inside Old National Bank

The gunman is among those killed during the shootout, confirmed police

LOUISVILLE, KENTUCKY: Four people were fatally shot on Monday morning, April 10 after a shooter opened fire outside a Louisville bank in Kentucky. The mass shooting, that also injured eight people, took place in the city's downtown area where the Old National Bank is situated, near Slugger Field, according to the Louisville Metro Police Department.

The gunman is among those killed during the shootout, confirmed police. The mass shooter had been "neutralized," however, police are yet to determine whether the gunman shot himself or if he was killed by the officers in the ordeal, said Paul Humphrey, LMPD Deputy Chief. Among those wounded were two police officers who were immediately shifted to the University of Louisville Hospital. The conditions of one of the police is listed as critical while the conditions of the other injured victims currently remain unknown, reported NY Post.

Witnesses recall horrifying mass shooting

Talking to WHAS11, witnesses said they saw a man on the bank building's first floor and he fired several shots from a "long assault rifle." One witness said, "He just started firing. I didn’t see his face. We were in the conference room. Whoever was next to me got shot, their blood’s on me." According to witnesses, the responding officers shot aiming the mass shooter. 

'I have a very close friend that didn't make it today,' said Kentucky Governor

Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear emotionally talked about the mass shooting in downtown Louisville and said, "I have a very close friend that didn't make it today." Talking about his other friend who was injured in the shootout, Beshear said that he hoped his friend who is being treated "is going to make it through."

The bank's windows were blown out following the shooting with glass scattered on the ground. The bank was not open to the public when the gunman opened fire.

Talking to WDRB, a driver who identified as Debbie said she spotted a man who seemed to be wounded lying on the bank's entrance steps and then heard gunfire while she stopped outside the bank for the traffic lights. "I didn’t know if it was going at the bank or out of the bank, I took off. When I turned, I saw that one of the windows in the bank had been blown out," she said. Debbie said multiple law enforcement vehicles rushed to the scene. "They were coming from everywhere, The police were coming out of their cars with black rifles," Debbie added.
