Connor Sturgeon: Louisville mass shooter who killed 4 and injured 8 at bank identified as ex-employee

LOUISVILLE, KENTUCKY: A Louisville mass shooter who opened fire outside a bank killing four people and injuring eight others, including two officers, on Monday morning, April 10, has been identified as Connor Sturgeon. The condition of one of the officers is listed as critical. The suspect was killed in the ordeal outside the Old National Bank situated in a downtown area near Slugger Field, Kentucky.
An investigation into Sturgeon's motive behind the shootout is underway. Before the bank was opened to the public, the suspect entered the bank at 8.30 am and began firing, according to Louisville Metro Police Department, reported New York Post.

Who was Connor Sturgeon?
For three consecutive years, Sturgeon worked at the Old National Bank as a summer intern. In 2021, he joined the bank as a commercial development professional and eventually took the role of a full-time associate and portfolio banker in 2022, as per his LinkedIn account.
In 2020, Sturgeon earned a master of science in finance from the University of Alabama. Sturgeon's father led the boys' basketball team of the University of Indianapolis as a coach from 1992 to 2007 in their appearances in five NCAA tournaments.
'Whoever was next to me got shot, their blood’s on me'
Witnesses of the bank shooting said they saw the suspect on the bank building's first floor and he started firing several shots from a "long assault rifle," while one witness recalled the incident and said, "He just started firing. I didn’t see his face. We were in the conference room. Whoever was next to me got shot, their blood’s on me." The responding officers shot aiming the lone gunman, according to witnesses, reported WHAS11.

As soon as the gunfire was heard, employees who were inside the bank took shelter inside bathrooms and conference rooms. Rickey Readus, a Louisville resident, said that the bank employees who were outside the bank found ran and found shelter at businesses nearby and claimed that one of the employees knew the suspect.
Talking to the Daily Beast, an employee named Tammy Madigan said, "The bathrooms on our floor have keycode entry, so it was probably the safest place we could think of to hide. So the six of us went into the men’s room, turned off all the sound on our phones, and tried to be as quiet as we could."

Paul Humphrey, the LMPD Deputy Chief said cops arrived at the scene quickly, cleared the area, and confronted the shooter inside. "Ultimately that suspect did die at the scene. We are trying to confirm if that suspect did die of a self-inflicted gunshot wound or was killed by officers at this time," he said.
