Theresa Caputo or 'Long Island Medium' as she's referred to, is a self-professed psychic medium. She has a TV show of her own where she does readings for her guests, including Hollywood stars. She claims to have a "gift" of communicating with the dead with the help of spirits, but not everyone really understands what Caputo truly does and many of them even dismiss her work as just another case of mumbo jumbo. However, her self-titled TLC show 'Long Island Medium' that premiered in 2011 has helped her popularity grow immensely.

Caputo has since made a number of TV appearances where she tries to explain to people what she really does. She does so by breaking the process down for everyone to understand, coupled with a number of testimonies from people that she's worked with. Even though it's tough to get everyone to believe in the credibility of what she does, Caputo's work has received backing from a couple of relevant voices including TV host Meredith Vieira.

"I didn't know what to make not of you in particular but just the whole idea of mediums and you came to my office and started to talk about my brother who had passed away from Alzheimer's, my brother Steve," Vieira said as Caputo appeared on one of the episodes of her show during 2016. "And you sensed his presence and you said he wants you to know he heard you say goodbye and it really annoyed him that you kept staring in his eyes to see if you were reaching him and that's what did it for me because I really did went to visit him not long before he passed away and I was holding his hand and my face really against his to see if he would somehow connect with me so that really moved me," Vieira said.

To further explain her "gift", Caputo said, "This is what I think people don't really understand about me. I get that what I do is crazy. Trust me, I am the first one to say 'how can someone communicate with someone that has died?' and I sit back every day and I'm like I can't believe this is happening." She further said, "Those little things that you are not expecting to bring up, things that nobody else would know, I can't make that up."

'Long Island Medium: There in Spirit' premieres on Friday, February 5, on Discovery+.
