Why is Lindsey Graham being dubbed 'traitor' for backing Joe Biden? Internet calls him 'America's drunk uncle'

Back in 2016, Graham had tweeted, 'If we nominate Trump, we will get destroyed... and we will deserve it', and this very tweet is back to haunt him

Supporters of President Donald Trump encouraged and cheered him on and stormed the US Capitol building on January 6, disrupting the certification of President-elect Joe Biden’s election victory. Trump has been unable to accept the election results ever since November and has been calling it "election fraud". It has barely been a week into 2021 and it has already begun on a nerve-wracking note as there are many debates on whether what America just witnessed was a coup or not. Hundreds of supporters, waving Trump banners broke through the barricades and entered the building where the Congress convenes. One rioter died and several police officers were hospitalized in the clash, and the Congress went on lockdown. 

It's startling what Senator Lindsey Graham had predicted four years ago before he became a staunch Trump supporter. Back in 2016, he had tweeted, "If we nominate Trump, we will get destroyed... and we will deserve it."

This tweet gained notorious attention in the light of the current events and Twitter didn't hold back from slamming him left, right and center, calling him a traitor and a political chameleon, as he again changed his mind. He backed Kamala Harris and Joe Biden as the next leaders of America on the Senate Floor.

"Lindsey Graham is the biggest snake and political chameleon in America," one user wrote. "Dear Lindsey Graham F**k you for all that, a**hole. Way to turn your back. Love, All of America that gives a s**t," another tweeted. There were many who called him a "breath of fresh air". "What's happening on television and in Congress right now proves that America's darkest days are followed by its finest hours. Lindsey Graham is on the senate floor being the voice of reason. There is hope," one wrote. 

"Lindsey Graham makes me sick to my stomach. This is a part of America that should be done away with, as soon as possible," one angry user tweeted. "F$&K LINDSEY GRAHAM This man who used to be a person of principle when I arrived in Washington (in 2006 when he made a name opposing torture) has ranked behind only Rudy Giuliani in his ability to turn a record of service into a flaming bag of s**t on America’s doorstep," another one wrote.

Others are contemplating why America doesn't have any better people to lead. "Lindsey Graham thinks it's time to try out his standup while telling people he accepts legal rulings but doesn't agree with them. Well then you don't accept them, do you? How are these the best you have America? Not that we're any better," one wrote. Some referred to him as "America's drunk uncle". "Lindsey Graham is America’s drunk uncle. Sit down and shut up bruh," one tweeted. "F**k you Lindsey Graham. He emboldened these traitors and should be removed from the Senate permanently. Do America a favor and f***ing resign before legal action is taken," another wrote.
