ISLE OF PALMS, SOUTH CAROLINA: The jury that found Alex Murdaugh guilty was not given the opportunity to hear from Lindsey Edwards, a former sex worker with a troubled history of assaults involving the legal scion. Edwards claims that she was beaten and sexually harassed by Murdaugh, who hired her from a network that specialized in serving "mayors, judges, solicitors, district attorneys, and police officers."

Edwards, 28, made the shocking claims in a video interview with the South Carolina news outlet FITSNews in August 2022. The mother-of-four, who claims she was sex trafficked while working as a pole dancer, described a number of incidents that happened in late 2014 or early 2015 when she was allegedly forced to have sex with Murdaugh and was the target of numerous vicious attacks by the lawyer who was given a life sentence on Friday, March 3. The discredited legal scion is accused by Edwards of raping her four times, beating her severely, and having connections to a sex trafficking ring with strong ties to police enforcement, according to DailyMail.

Where did Lindsey Edwards and Alex Murdaugh first meet?

Edwards claimed that in late 2014 or early 2015, her "madam" brought her and a number of other women to a private party at a beach house on the Isle of Palms, where she first met Murdaugh, according to FITSNews. "It was apparently a guys weekend or something like that," Edwards stated. "There was a bunch of guys there drinking, doing drugs."

Edwards continued, "They had a fire going on the deck and eating food and just hanging out. I think for the first hour we were there we were taking shots, doing cocaine, smoking weed, hanging out by the fire and just talking and getting to know them. That's where I met Alex Murdaugh."

What was Lindsey Edwards' initial reaction to Alex Murdaugh?

Edwards said in reference to the setting of the private party, "There were at least enough girls for everybody that was there. They had their pick of the crowd between the girls. He attached himself to me. He was very nice, very gentlemanlike at first." She claimed that he identified himself as a personal injury attorney from Hampton, South Carolina.

Edwards stated, "When it came time to actually have to service him, my expectations were still pretty high. I was like okay, shouldn't be that bad, I've already done this a good hundreds of dozens of times at this point. He seemed like a really nice person."

'I was seeing spots, seeing stars'

As Edwards observed, "You could just see his whole personality change," the situation eventually turned into a nightmare. She stated, "You could see it in his eyes. Maybe it was the cocaine and everything. His pupils got so much bigger to the point his eyes were almost solid black. I was violently choked with both hands, being pinned down to the bed by my throat."

Edwards continued, "It was at the point where I couldn't breathe. I was blacking out, I was seeing spots, seeing stars. I was beating and scratching on his wrist as much as possible to get him to stop, because I thought at that moment I was going to die. It was also while being violently penetrated. As soon as he was done, I got up and ran out as fast as possible, even completely naked."

'If he wasn't choking me I had a wash rag shoved in my mouth'

A few weeks later, without Edwards' knowledge, Murdaugh arranged for her to work at a hotel in North Charleston. Edwards stated, "I had bald spots in the back of my head. The hair there is still taking a while to grow out. I still had hand prints around my neck that I was covering up with makeup." Edwards claimed that she was in danger of losing her life but was able to get away by bringing her phone and summoning a cab. She stated that five hours later, however, her captors discovered her at home, pulled her outside, and forced her to "go back and service Murdaugh."

Edwards stated, "He was even more pissed then. I got hair pulling and choking. If he wasn't choking me I had a wash rag shoved in my mouth and I was being slapped across my face violently for a good 20-30 minutes." She stated that when she asked her pimp why she let Murdaugh beat her, the woman told her he was a "personal friend."

Has Lindsey Edwards taken legal action against Alex Murdaugh?

Edwards stated that after seeing Murdaugh during the course of his murder investigation, she ultimately decided to come forward. Her goal was to use the publicity to advance the cause of women's reproductive rights, which was close to her heart. She stated that any settlement from a potential civil case would go to a charity for victims of human trafficking and that she didn't seek payment for her story.

Edwards stated, "I would like to open up a foundation for human trafficking victims so they can start their lives over and not have to fight tooth and nail like I had to, to get to where I'm at today." Her attorney, former state representative Mandy Powers Norrell, previously acknowledged that the mother of four had spent hours telling her narrative to SLED officers.

What crimes is Alex Murdaugh allegedly guilty of?

Murdaugh now faces at least five separate state investigations after being found guilty on Thursday, March 2. These include a financial crimes investigation for defrauding clients and associates, accusations of trafficking oxycodone and meth, and charges of obstructing the investigation into the boat crash that killed Mallory Beach, 19. Prosecutors stated that an assisted suicide life insurance conspiracy, obstruction of justice, and more than 100 additional allegations against Murdaugh will now move forward, according to DailyMail. He is also the subject of a drug trafficking investigation.

Robert Kittle, a spokesperson for the South Carolina Attorney General's Office, stated, "We do intend to pursue the other charges pending against Alex Murdaugh. However, there are no charges against him at this time related to sex trafficking or sexual assault. We cannot confirm, and certainly cannot comment on, anything that may or may not be under investigation," according to DailyMail.

Kittle stated, "Other than the four charges he was just convicted of, there are 99 State Grand Jury financial charges pending against him, and three local charges related to the roadside shooting incident: conspiracy, false claim for payment, and filing a false police report."

MEAWW previously reported that two people have reportedly accused Alex Murdaugh of having an affair with his late wife Maggie, but the jury in the disgraced lawyer's double murder trial won't hear about it. The alleged killer's sister-in-law, Marion Proctor, recently revealed in court testimony that she thinks the disgraced attorney cheated on her sister 15 years ago.
