DUXBURY, MASSACHUSETTS: Lawyer of Lindsay Clancy, the woman who allegedly strangled her three children to death, has revealed on Friday, February 3, that she was overmedicated on dozens of prescription drugs. "Turning her into a zombie," the intake of the drugs resulted in her experiencing suicidal and homicidal thoughts, according to Clancy's lawyer.

“One of the major issues here is the horrific overmedication of drugs that caused homicidal ideation, suicidal ideation. No overdose [by Lindsay.] They [Lindsay and her husband Patrick] went to doctors repeatedly saying, ‘Please help us.’ This was turning her into a zombie,” said Attorney Kevin Reddington, as per the Boston Globe report. “The medications that were prescribed were over the top, absolutely over the top,” he added.

Was Lindsay Clancy overmedicated on drugs?

According to Clancy's lawyer, the midwife mother was on 12 prescribed medicated drugs between October 2022 and January 2023. Out of the 12 drugs, nine were identified by Reddington as zolpidem (Ambien), clonazepam, (Klonopin), diazepam (Valium), fluoxetine (Prozac), lamotrigine, (Lamictil), lorazepam, (Ativan), mirtazapine, (Remeron), quetiapine fumarate, (Seroquel) and trazodone.

The medicines are prescribed for conditions including anxiety, panic attacks, depression, and other mood disorders. The Massachusetts mother previously revealed on social media that as a mom, she struggled with anxiety. Talking about her reportedly suffering from postpartum depression, Reddington, who hired a toxicologist and a forensic mental health expert to support the case' defense, said, “It’s over medication, absolutely over medications — possibly with a component of postpartum depression."

"She had medical care and treatment on a regular basis. And, her husband was very proactive in trying to protect her and help her with the doctor's medication she was prescribed. They went through hell — and they didn’t come back," the lawyer added, according to Boston Globe.

Where is Lindsay Clancy now?

The 32-year-old mother, who was a labor and delivery nurse at Massachusetts General Hospital, was on leave when she allegedly attacked her children at their Duxbury home on January 24 in a horrifying murder-suicide attempt. Clancy, who leaped out of a window after strangling her children while her husband Patrick went out to pickup a takeout order, is charged with the murder of her daughter Cora, 5, and son Dawson, and her 8-month-old son Callan.

According to Duxbury Police Chief Michael Carbone, Clancy is currently at a hospital and her health condition is "improving daily." However, her lawyer said that she is unable to walk due to her injuries. “She can’t get out of bed. She can’t walk. I don’t know what the medical prognosis is regarding that, but right now, she cannot walk,” he said.

Talking to the news outlet, he added, “She’s not in good physical shape. She’s not in good emotional shape … She is not going to get out of bed and walk out of the room.” The lawyer said that for Lindsay's arraignment in Plymouth District Court on Tuesday, February 7, at 2.00 pm, she is expected to make a Zoom appearance. Clancy has not been allowed to contact anyone on the phone or to have any visitors at the hospital, said Reddington.
