DUXBURY, MASSACHUSETTS: A psychiatrist hired to evaluate postpartum mother Lindsay Clancy, who tried to kill herself after strangling her three children to death on January 24, says she has been left "flat as a board" by a combination of drugs and depression. Lindsay is being treated for a spinal fracture in a hospital after jumping from a top-floor window of her home after killing her children, saying she heard a 'man's voice' telling her to do so.

Dr Paul Zeizel claimed he cannot wrap his head around the fact the 32-year-old nurse who had been battling postpartum depression for months was given 13 different drugs over the course of eight months. Zeizel evaluating Lindsay's situation described it as a nightmare while her attorney blamed the hospital's inappropriate care and the medication as the reason for her rapid psychosis.

Who is Dr Paul Zeizel?

Dr Paul Zeizel is a clinical psychologist in Massachusetts, according to Daily Mail. He was hired by Lindsay's lawyer to observe her condition. "She is flat as a board. She's wondering what is going on," Dr Zeizel said of her condition. He alleged the 32-year-old nurse, who is now paralyzed is aware of who she is and who the children were but "there is not a lot of emoting," he said.

Dr Zeizel claimed the 'flatness' of her demeanor could be caused by pain medication, psychotic medication, or depression, and in her case, all of which can be considered a possibility. He blamed her condition on the medical system saying, "This is nightmarish - it is so sad. And to think the job she had was the very environment in which she was suffering... it is a tragedy." He said it remains a "conundrum" as to how the mother of three was prescribed 13 drugs over eight months period.

'Unpredictable!'

"This is not normal [this amount of drugs]. There were too many cooks in the kitchen," Dr Zeizel said. He recalled Lindsay's normal behavior before the alleged killing, as to how the mother took her daughter to the pediatrician and then played with her two oldest kids in the snow outside their home. She later ordered her husband Patrick to collect a takeout, but when he returned, the father of three was left appalled. Patrick found a bloodied Lindsay outside in the yard with broken bones. He found his children strangled to death in the basement.

Dr Zeizel explained it's entirely possible for her to behave 'normally', noting the voices she heard at the time of the killing were "unpredictable." He said, "These voices, they can come and go. They are unpredictable." A judge ordered Lindsay to stay in the hospital for several weeks before being transferred to a 24/7 medical rehabilitation center for further treatment.
