'Lightyear' is one of the much-awaited flicks in June and sees Chris Evans lend his voice to one of 'Toy Story's most-iconic characters. The film serves as the origin story of Buzz Lightyear. The plot sees a strapping space ranger marooned on a planet 4.2 million light-years from Earth. Also lending their voices are Taika Waititi, Keke Palmer, Peter Sohn, Josh Brolin, Dale Soules, Uzo Aduba, Mary McDonald-Lewis, Efren Ramirez, and Isiah Whitlock Jr.

A Buzz Lightyear film was previously attempted. However, 'Buzz Lightyear of Star Command: The Adventure Begins' proved to be a rather damp squib. However, the upcoming installment is pretty much considered to be an improved version of the previous ones.

When will 'Lightyear' release on Disney+?

'Lightyear' gears up for a theatrical release on June 17. The film is yet to receive a confirmed date of release on Disney+. However, as is the way it operates, expect it to land sometime in the last week of July or early August. The movies that hit cinemas usually take a good 30 to 45 days and that would mean 'Lightyear' following a similar approach. The Digitalfix suggests that the Evans- starter might be made available on Disney+ between July 21 and August 3. In the meantime, you can check out 'Beyond Infinity: Buzz' and the 'Journey to Lightyear' on Disney+

The official synopsis per Pixar, reads, "An epic sci-fi action-adventure and the definitive origin story of Buzz Lightyear, the hero who inspired the toy, Lightyear follows the legendary Space Ranger after he’s marooned on a hostile planet 4.2 million light-years from Earth alongside his commander and their crew. As Buzz tries to find a way back home through space and time, he’s joined by a group of ambitious recruits and his charming robot companion cat, Sox. Complicating matters and threatening the mission is the arrival of Zurg, an imposing presence with an army of ruthless robots and a mysterious agenda."
