After striking gold with recent shows and movies like 'Squid Game', 'Crazy Rich Asians', 'Bling Empire', and 'Upcoming Summer', the streaming giant is looking forward to adding another hit show to its impressive catalog with 'Light the Night'.

When does 'Light the Night' release and where can you watch it?

The 24-episode 'Light the Night' is all set to premiere on Friday, November 26, 2021. The first eight episodes will be released on November 26, the second set of eight episodes will be available for streaming on December 3, and the final eight episodes will drop on December 10. Viewers can subscribe to Netflix directly, via a mobile app store (App Store, Google Play). You can also watch it by signing up for the platform’s free trial. Apart from that, viewers can also opt for different subscription plans provided by the streaming giant.

What is 'Light the Night' all about?

Set in 1980s Taipei, the series revolves around the mama-san Rose and the ladies of a popular nightclub in the red-light district of Taipei. The series is a unique genre mash-up of a murder mystery thriller and an emotionally intense drama. “I was given the script of Light the Night before the series went into production, and I fell in love with it instantly,” says Jerry Zhang, Manager, Content, Netflix, who remembers finishing reading all 24 episodes in just a few hours. “I was drawn to the suspense of the murder mystery, and also fascinated by each character’s backstory.”

Who stars on 'Light the Night'?

Ruby Lin leads 'Light the Night'  in her role as mama-san Rose. The series also features Cheryl Yang, Yo Yang, Rhydian Vaughan and Derek Chang. "I’m really happy that Light the Night will be released via Netflix in 190 countries and territories,” says Lin. “Through this series, we hope to introduce audiences all over the world to this Taiwanese subculture.” “It's a very local story set in 1980s Taipei,” Zhang adds. “But the humanity of the story is universal. This further proves Netflix's belief how local content can travel the world.” 

Who are the showrunners?

Lien Ye-Chi is the director of 'Light the Night'. "With the luxury of telling our story over 24 episodes with such a large cast, we were able to fully satisfy our creative vision,” he said at the show's press conference.
