Was Liam Hemsworth the ORIGINAL Geralt? Actor auditioned for ‘The Witcher’ before Henry Cavill!
LOS ANGELES; CALIFORNIA: Last week, Netflix released new updates on 'The Witcher,' something fans have been waiting for several months. However, the new details about the popular Netflix series put fans in an awkward position. While the streaming platform announced that the series has been renewed for the fourth season, which most of us expected, 'The Witcher' fans were disappointed to learn that the creators of the series have replaced Henry Cavill with Liam Hemsworth for the role of Geralt in Season 4.
The next season of 'The Witcher' will be released in 2023, but Cavill has reportedly parted ways with the series. Although many fans pleaded with the creators and the streaming platform for Cavill to return, most were not even aware of the fact that Hemsworth was once the first choice for the role of the beloved "Geralt of Rivia" until Cavill sealed the deal with his casting.

According to a report by Redanian Intelligence, Hemsworth first auditioned for the role back in 2018 even before Cavill was cast. Hemsworth seemed to be delighted to finally get back the role which he probably would have thought was his in the first place, despite getting negative feedback from the fans since the announcement.
"As a Witcher fan I’m over the moon about the opportunity to play Geralt of Rivia," Hemsworth posted on Instagram after his casting was announced. "Henry Cavill has been an incredible Geralt, and I’m honoured that he’s handing me the reins and allowing me to take up the White Wolf’s blades for the next chapter of his adventure. Henry, I’ve been a fan of yours for years and was inspired by what you brought to this beloved character."
"I may have some big boots to fill, but I’m truly excited to be stepping into The Witcher world", Hemsworth added acknowledging that it would be a challenge to have fans accept him as the new Geralt.
This is a very rare occasion as casting changes for the lead characters of a show often lead to a negative response from the fans. "The Witcher" addicts have also taken the matter into their hands as they filed a petition demanding that the entire creative team gets fired so that Cavill can return to the show. In a matter of days, the petition has already flown past 150,000 signatures. However, it is highly unlikely that the petition is going to put pressure on the Netflix show.
Whether the series will suffer a massive rating or viewership drop, only time is going to tell that but till then fans have to accept Hemsworth as the new Geralt with a grain of salt.
