ROSENBERG, TEXAS: One-year-old Leylani Ordónez, who was kidnapped and ultimately killed by her own father, was remembered as a calm, happy baby who always had a smile on her face. After an Amber Alert was sent out for Leylani, the sad scenario spiraled out of control. Her father, 24-year-old Alexander Ordónez Barrios, who was driving a stolen truck, was apprehended after an hour-long chase. On Tuesday, November 1, police in Rosenberg found Leylani's bloody body with her father, who too had fatally wounded himself.

Leylani's mother, Nicole Macias, said, "She was such a quiet, calm baby but she was so social, she just loved the attention and she was so full of happiness always smiling. She was really smart too for her age," according to KHOU. Nicole, who was watching Leylani when she was abducted, claims that her death "leaves a big hole." She said that Alexander broke into the house and kidnapped the infant on Tuesday night. She claimed that she tried to stop him but he pushed her and fled with Leylani.

Sugar Land Police Department stated that the tow truck Alexander stole was located by police in less than 24 hours close to University and Highway 6. Leylani was in the car when the chase began, which lasted an hour because he wouldn't stop.

Officers used spike strips to bring an end to the chase on FM 762 near the Southwest Freeway in Rosenberg. Police stated that Alexander allegedly exited the truck while holding Leylani, according to the police. "Looks like the child is bleeding," an officer stated.

"We don't know the exact moment when the baby was injured. But we do know that when he exited the vehicle, the baby was already bloody," RPD Lt Suni Jugueta stated. The Rosenberg Police Department reports that Alexander then fatally wounded himself and both were declared dead at the hospital.

Prior to the kidnapping, according to police, Alexander reportedly stabbed his former boss, the owner of the tow truck, in a body shop. Police said there is still a chance he could survive. A GoFundMe page has been set up to help Leylani's family with the cost of medical care and funeral expenses. A total of $5,275 has been collected as of Thursday, November 3.
