‘Let’s keep in touch’: Cancer-stricken grandmom made Ouija boards for her funeral guests as parting gift

Along with the Ouija boards, a picture of Jodie Perryman poking her tongue out and raising her middle fingers was also included in the card

BRECKINRIDGE, TEXAS: When Gracie Perryman, a 20-year-old college student who is one month away from turning 21, went to her grandmother's funeral on October 18 in Breckenridge, Texas, she received an unexpected surprise. For the event, Jodie Perryman, who passed away from cancer at the age of 81, built personalized Ouija boards for the visitors. A picture of Perryman poking her tongue out and raising her middle finger was also included in the card, along with a brief message that said, "Let's keep in touch!"

Gracie Perryman who resides in Austin, which is roughly a three-and-a-half-hour drive from Breckenridge posted about the unique gift from her late grandmother on Twitter with the caption, "Received this at my grandmas funeral. What an icon," which quickly went viral.

"It was hysterical," according to Gracie Perryman of Austin. "And everybody was like, of course, that was "so Jodie of her," of course." Perryman called her grandmother, a former retail employee, a "firecracker" who was capable of "outwitting anybody."

"She was hilarious. She had a great sense of humor and a huge heart," Perryman said per Today. "She loved her family. And she just took care of people around her. She was a great woman." “She enjoyed crafting, crocheting, sewing and making holiday decorations with her children,” her obituary in the local newspaper read, “The love she had poured over into everything she made.”

Perryman claimed that throughout the summer, her grandmother began to realize that her health was deteriorating "quite fast." In the end, she had to decide between having surgery even though her body might not be able to withstand it, or letting her cancer progress naturally. She went with the latter. However, Jodie Perryman promised her network on Facebook in August that "everyone will be awarded their very own ouija board" at her burial "with a small letter from me that says: 'Let's remain in contact!'" Jodie Perryman passed away on October 12.

Despite this Facebook post, the gift still caught Gracie Perryman off guard. "Everyone was dying, laughing. It was hilarious," she said, "because that was so her." She remembers wondering when she opened the present during the burial, "What on Earth is this?" A little while later, she claimed that everyone in the room approximately 30 to 40 people started laughing since they were all receiving their gifts at the same time.

Twitter users have gone crazy for the unusual funeral gift, even though an Ouija board—a tool some claim can help them communicate with the dead—is frequently perceived as somewhat more spooky than heartwarming.

"From this onr fact I can tell your grandmother was the best, sorry for your loss," one Twitter user replied while another said " THAT IS AMAZING AND I AM STEALING HER IDEA FOR MY DEATH."

Later, according to Perryman and her roommates, they attempted to utilize the Ouija board but quickly concluded it was ineffective. "It's just paper," she said while laughing. "We tried but to no avail."
