'Legacies' Season 2 Fall Finale featured some surprisingly touching moments as Jandon scene will go down as show's best ever
In last week's episode of 'Legacies', unable to choose between Hope and Josie after he got his memories back, Landon runs away from the Salvatore School with Rafael (again). Of course, Landon says that it was because he doesn't want the people he cares about to be hurt by the monsters Malivore is sending after him. But we know the truth.
Landon and Rafael are headed to North Carolina and while the two are on the bus, Landon tells Raf that he had Josie perform a lineage spell on Rafael while he was stuck in his wolf form in case his family members could help turn him back.
This led Landon to learn that Rafael's parents are still alive and one of them is located in North Carolina -- the people who raised Raf till he was 10 years old were not his real parents.
And so, Landon and Rafael walk up to a cabin in the woods when they've reached North Carolina, only Rafael does not want to meet his parents -- so much so that he reminds Landon of the disaster that happened when Landon tried to get MG to confront his father the previous year (the Season 1 episode we learned that Landon is actually a phoenix). When Landon forces him, Raf almost wolfs out.
But, just as they turn to leave, a man shows up holding a rifle and tells them to go inside, where he uncovers a werewolf cage. He tells the boys that he isn't a werewolf, but that he was in love with one.
We then get a tearful backstory on Rafael's parents who are both veterans who met in Afghanistan. Raf's mother's time in Afghanistan caused her to trigger her werewolf curse. When she found out she was pregnant, she ran away during the first full moon after that and Raf's father could never find her.
What follows -- as Landon leaves them to it -- is a tearful reunion between the two as Rafael agrees he will crash at his father's place.
But that was not the only tearful moment this episode. Before Clarke is set to walk into the Malivore pit, he calls Hope and confesses that he was jealous of Hope because she was loved, as his eyes tear up. Hope offers to listen to him as long as he needed, but he is ready to accept his fate now.
Meanwhile, the episode ended with Landon returning to Mystic Falls and though he tells Josie that he could not find "a better partner, a better conscience" than her, Josie understands that Hope is the one he loves as he breaks up with her. Say what you will about Jandon, but this scene between the two characters was perhaps one of the best on the show.
Of course, something else happened which fans would have been wishing for -- Alaric has been reinstated as the Headmaster of the Salvatore School -- the perfect gift Josie wanted to give her father this Christmas. Our hearts hurt for Josie and we hope she will have happier stories in the second half of Season 2.
