'Legacies' Season 2 Fall Finale: Will new characters Maya and Ethan be the mysterious figures under the red hoods?

Both Maya and Ethan have taken to Hope Mikaelson, and with the whole love triangle existing between her, Landon, and Josie, Hope might have to move on from the love of her life.

The second season of 'Legacies' on The CW featured a handful of new characters including the new Headmaster Vardemus — who turned out to be Ryan Clarke (Malivore's mud son), — the new Sherrif, Mac, and her children, Maya and Ethan.

Both Maya and Ethan have taken to Hope Mikaelson, and with the whole love triangle existing between her, Landon, and Josie, Hope might, in fact, have to move on from the love of her life. However, we haven't seen enough of Maya or Ethan to see which of them would suit Hope more.

There were also two other characters, albeit more sinister, that we have seen more of in this season. There have been mysterious red-hooded figures — first, it was one, then it was revealed there were really two — who seem intent on sending monsters to the Salvatore School.

We don't know yet who these figures are, and from the buzz around the second season's fall finale, it looks like we will be getting closer to uncovering the mystery as to who they might be. Moreover, in the last episode, the Sphinx revealed that a monster worse than Malivore would be headed to Mystic Falls.

Now, what this monster would want is another mystery and perhaps this monster would be the mysterious figures we have been seeing from the beginning of the second season.

This is a pattern we have seen on the parent shows of 'Legacies' — 'The Vampire Diaries' and 'The Originals', where each season's villain paved the way for a bigger and more dangerous villain.

Of course, it is quite possible that the faces under the hoods also belong to people we may have seen already — much like Vardemus being Clarke the whole time — and our guess is that the people under the hoods are Maya and Ethan.

Though they go to the Salvatore School, we don't know enough about their background to rule out that they may be magical — a la Landon of Season 1 who ended up being a Phoenix when everyone thought he was just a human.

The 'Legacies' Season 2 Fall Finale will air on December 12.
