'Legacies' Season 2 Episode 3: Is Josie Saltzman morphing into her evil uncle Kai Parker?

This week's episode continued to bring out the dark side of Josie as her jealousy played up her insecurities to a dangerous level.

We saw Josie's jealousy monster come out in last week's episode of 'Legacies' when another witch tried to flirt with Landon. Josie cast a spell to make the witch's nose bleed in retaliation. What's worse is that the new Headmaster of the Salvatore School, Vardemus, seems to encourage this dark side, by suggesting a spell that would cause a time delay, meaning that she would have ample time to get away after doing the deed. He is, after all, a supernatural supremacist.

Though Josie spoke to Landon at the end of the episode, we suspected that this side of her had not gone away and we continue to see it in the third episode of the second season. Josie's jealousy grows even bigger when she learns that Landon and Hope shared a "milkshake moment", and even tells Landon at one point to tackle Hope to the ground. When Landon disappears, her goal becomes to bury the students of Mystic Falls High. When the star QB of MFH plays and starts scoring, she gets a spell from Vardemus and when she performs it, breaks Ethan's arm -- putting an end to his scholarship and dreams.

She may not have known what the spell could really do, but it doesn't seem likely that she feels that much remorse. Alaric is watching all this and he is not happy with the influence Vardemus is having on his daughter. When Josie runs to bid farewell to her father as the Mystic Falls High bus speeds out of the Salvatore School gates, her nose bleeds as she watches him.

While Lizzie spent her summer working on her issues to be in a healthier place, Josie was mostly focused on the Merge and her father. It's always been accepted that Lizzie is the one with the problems, but Josie may have just been able to hide hers under the radar while Lizzie's issues took the focus off of her.

It becomes harder and harder not to see parts of her evil uncle, Kai Parker when her dark side comes out. To recall, Kai began to lose control so much that his coven put him in a prison world to avoid him becoming their leader. Later, he killed the Saltzman twins' mother, Jo (who we saw in the last season briefly) on her wedding day. We never got to see Kai spiraling and this may be the beginning of that journey for Josie.

'Legacies' airs on The CW on Thursday nights.
