'Legacies' Season 2 Episode 14: Dark Josie is here to stay and the Merge could happen sooner than we thought

Earlier this season on 'Legacies', we saw dark Josie unleashed while the Saltzmans were trapped in the prison world — courtesy Alyssa Chang and Kai Parker. By channeling her dark magic, Josie Saltzman was able to get herself, her father Alaric, her sister Lizzie and a couple of others out to the real world.
However, just as soon as dark Josie appeared, it seemed like she went away. We were quite disappointed with that considering how much time the show had spent telling viewers to be worried about dark Josie.
However, in this week's episode of 'Legacies', we have learned that dark Josie is back, and unfortunately, it may be for good.
After Emma Tig sets up a simulation exercise in an imaginary world so that a small group of students can work out their trauma from the previous episodes, she learned that the exercise was not going the way she planned.
Dark Josie took control of the game and later Josie's body as well. While Alaric and Hope Mikaelson tried to keep Josie under supervision in a cell, dark Josie soon broke out and she set the Salvatore School on fire as she walked out with a grin on her face.
However, Josie will not be gone for long. In the promo for next week's episode, we see her come back to celebrate the twins' birthday. And it turns out, dark Josie wants the Merge to happen much earlier than the stipulated date of the twins' 22nd birthday.
To recall, the Merge happens when the twins of the Gemini coven undergo a process in which one absorbs the other and takes control of the Gemini coven. Kai Parker was the twins' mother's twin brother who went mad with the need to be more powerful.
If the Merge does happen next week, Josie is certainly more powerful with all her dark magic. We cannot help but be worried about Lizzie — a character that has undergone so much growth this season.
We did think the Merge would be a few seasons away and we certainly did not expect the writers to tackle the subject so soon. Alaric has been desperately trying to find a way to protect both his daughters from the Merge, but now, he may be out of time.
