'Legacies' Season 2 Episode 12: Alaric's past haunts him in the prison world, but will he survive this trial?
In last week's episode of 'Legacies', we learned some unfortunate truths about Alaric Saltzman -- the Headmaster of Salvatore School. These truths let us know that Alaric is not as squeaky-clean as we thought he was.
It turns out, Alaric has been sending unruly supernatural teenagers to the prison world where Kai Parker(the villain of the Gemini Coven) was trapped in at the end of 'The Vampire Diaries'. In this week's episode of 'Legacies', Alaric's mistakes come back to haunt him.
We meet three of the students that Alaric sent to the prison world -- Jade, a vampire, Wendy, a witch and Diego, a werewolf. In the past, the three students were confined within a barrier spell but managed to trick a young Josie Saltzman into freeing them. The next day, Alaric and Dorian come across burnt bodies in the woods. When he finds a Salvatore School pin on one of the corpses, he knows who is responsible. Though he confronts Jade about it, she does not tell him anything -- convincing Alaric to send them to the prison world.
Back in the future, we learn that Jade brought Kai back and she has been playing a hunting game with the rest of those who are in the prison world with her -- a form of "supernatural 'Hunger Games'".
When Alaric is captured and tied up, Jade tells him what really happened. When Jade and the others went to a party in the woods with humans, they realize the humans invited them to humiliate them. Angered, Diego and Wendy attack the humans. Jade realizes that she is a ripper and drains one of the humans. Overcome with shame, regret, and a multitude of feelings, Jade then turned her humanity off. She then tells Alaric that she will let Josie go if he survives the hunting game for 24 hours. He manages to escape and goes to the Armory at the Salvatore School.
Unfortunately for viewers, that's where the episode ends. If one thing was made clear, it's that Alaric does not feel remorse for what he did. However, it does feel like Alaric needs to claim some responsibility for what happened. Whether Alaric survives might depend on whether he can get through to Jade and convince her to turn her humanity back on.
