'Legacies' Season 2: Why mysterious red-hooded figure sends monsters after students of Salvatore School?

The midseason finale, scheduled to air on December 12, could also give us answers as to who we will see beneath the hood.

In the last episode of 'Legacies', which aired on The CW two weeks ago, there were two monsters — unlike the norm where there was only one monster from Malivore terrorizing the students from Salvatore School. One was a Croatoan, and the other was a zombie.

In the first season, the monsters were sent to retrieve the so-called keys to Malivore, so that the entity could stop being a pit and become a walking mud monster. In the second season, we learn that the monsters were sent by Malivore to retrieve Landon — the sort-of-son to the mud monster.

But, there is also another set of dastardly beings in the second season. We saw the mysterious red-hooded figure early on in the season — drawing the Malivore symbol in a cemetery, on a jogger's head they just killed.

More shockingly, in the episode where Lizzie is possessed by an oni — a Japanese ghost demon — we see there's not one, but two mysterious hooded figures who acknowledge each other. This has not been referred to again so far.

In the last episode, however, we see that the figure prevents the zombie — which is now on the loose — from killing Ethan who is out on a jog, but instead redirects it to the Salvatore School by showing a vision they are able to access through the Croatoan's severed eye-tentacle. The vision shows MG, but we are not sure whether the figure intends to target MG or the whole of Salvatore School.

So why are these monsters sending monsters after our favorite witches, vampires, and werewolves? We are not sure yet but we think the answer might be clearer in the fall finale that is set to air on December 12.

Perhaps, these figures could also be working with — or rather, controlling — Vardemus, who wears a ring with a red stone and is really Ryan Clarke in disguise. It could be these figures that pulled out Clarke from the Malivore pit. Could these figures be after "supernatural superiority" as Vardemus always talks about?

'Legacies' airs on The CW on Thursday nights.
