LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: The temporary replacement for Tucker Carlson's Fox News weekday slot has been announced and it’s Lawrence Jones. The 30-year-old presenter, who has been anchoring ‘Lawrence Jones Cross Country’ on Fox News on Saturday nights since January 2022, is set to take over from Carlson on Monday, May 1, as the ‘Tucker Carlson Show’ is rebranded as ‘Fox News Tonight.’

After the news broke, Jones took to Twitter and wrote, "Grateful for this opportunity family. I’m no TC.. he carved his own lane & earned your trust. I can only be the LJ you’ve allowed to grow the last 9 years on Fox." Jones' appointment comes after Brian Kilmeade's weeklong stint as Carlson's replacement, reports Daily Mail

Who is Lawrence Jones?

Jones has been a Fox News contributor, political commentator, radio host, and author, reports The Sun. Jones, who worked in the Obama campaign when he was 15, as per Page Six, has worked for multiple shows for the network, including 'Fox & Friends' and 'Fox News Primetime.' He reported live from Uvalde, Texas, after the mass shooting that killed 19 children and two adults, and covered the death of Tyre Nichols, the Idaho murders, among others. On January 29, 2022, when he started anchoring 'Lawrence Jones Cross Country', he became the youngest Black solo host on cable news with the premiere of his show.

Talking about his job, he told Dallas Morning News in January 2023, “I never thought I would be doing this job. I think my classmates will tell you and my parents would say that I always had an opinion. I was always advocating for someone involved with politics in some form or fashion.” According to the outlet, Jones served on Garland High School’s Youth Council from 2009 to 2011 and was a representative on the city’s Parks and Recreation Board from 2012 to 2014.

'Congrats and good luck but no Fox'

The news of Jones' new stint didn't go well with his fans. One of them wrote, "Congratulations and best of luck to you! Don't take it personal when the numbers aren't there. FOX "fired" alot of their viewers when they fired Tucker and that isn't on YOU. Do you and keep growing!" Another added, "I wish you the best… I’m so sorry you were put in this slot I hope you always do well." While a third commented, "Congrats and good luck but no Fox for me." One more said, "I adore you, but I’m done with Fox. Best of luck to you! You’ve earned the opportunity."

'Tucker Carlson More Popular Than Fox News'

While Jones is ready to step in his new slot, rival corporation Newsmax is said to be lining up a huge bid to lure Carlson to their team. Newsmax's website has focused on publishing stories slamming Fox News and favoring Carlson, who got fired abruptly from the network on April 24, with a headline on Saturday morning, April 29, citing a poll, reading, 'Tucker Carlson More Popular Than Fox News,' Daily Mail reports.

As per the report, Carlson made up to $20 million annually at Fox News and was the channel's highest-rated primetime host. Following Carlson's removal, ratings shot up for Newsmax's Eric Bolling, who hosts a show in the same 8 pm Eastern slot as Carlson's former show. Meanwhile, One America Network, another right-wing news channel, has also made overtures to Carlson. Founder and CEO Robert Herring said that he "would like to extend an invitation to Carlson to meet for negotiation to become a part of the OAN team."
