Lara Trump says 'it's not easy' being a supporter of the president as she headlines 'Women for Trump' with Karen Pence
President Donald Trump's daughter-in-law Lara Trump, during an event on Wednesday night, acknowledged that it was "not easy" being a supporter of the president. She made the rare remark while attending a "Women for Trump" event fronted by second lady Karen Pence and her. The two women, during the event at St. Paul's Union Depot in Minnesota, insisted that Donald Trump was the best choice for women in America.
The event came days after an ABC News-Washington Post Poll in September stated that Trump has a 30 percent approval rating among women. The event occurred a day before both Trump and Vice President Mike Pence are set to visit the Twin Cities, with a particular focus on turning Minnesota red in the 2020 presidential elections.
"We're going to do it here in Minnesota by the way in 2020," Lara Trump told the crowd of women. "I think if you're a young woman and you're on the fence, you need to look at the facts you need to look at the fact when you come out of college or high school or starting a family, this is a President that cares about your pocketbook."
Eric Trump's wife also discussed a variety of issues, including the economy and immigration. She, however, acknowledged: "We know it's not easy sometimes to be a Trump supporter."
The 'Women for Trump' movement was initiated by Lara Trump while she was campaigning for him during the 2016 presidential elections. There was another moment that stood out during the event when Second Lady Karen Pence said she liked the way President Trump treats young women.
She received heavy backlash online shortly after making the statement with several critics reminding her of Trump's well-documented history of insulting women, and the comments made by him in the infamous 2005 'Access Hollywood' tape, where the Republican bragged about "grabbing them by their pu*****."
Karen Pence had reportedly said that she likes the respect Trump has for his daughters, Ivanka Trump and Tiffany Trump, and claimed that the president had "empowered women like no other," according to The New York Times’ White House correspondent Katie Rogers. Pence reportedly also told the crowd to "go out and talk to a friend in support of the president," and asked them to pray for him, saying: "Don’t be afraid to get on your knees.”
