'La Révolution': Release date, plot, cast, trailer and all you need to know about Netflix's 'reimagined history' of the French Revolution

The French-language drama is set in 1787 and will follow the future inventor of the guillotine as he uncovers a disease – named Blue Blood

Netflix has upped its game when it comes to international releases and this late October, yet another series will be added to its repertoire. 'La Révolution' follows the French Revolution where Joseph Guillotin finds out about a virus that spreads among the noble leading them to kill the commoners. Here is what we know of the upcoming series.

Release date

La Révolution airs on October 16, 2020. 

Plot

The official plot from Netflix reads, "In a reimagined history, a mysterious disease besets 18th century France, culminating in a brutal clash between rebels and the aristocracy." The French-language drama is set in 1787 and will follow the future inventor of the guillotine as he uncovers a disease – named Blue Blood – that drives the aristocracy to murder commoners.

El Kacem is known for his roles as Yacine in 'Fast Convoy' (2016), Kévin in 'The Climb' (2017), Samir in 'Hippocrate' (2018-2019), and Mam's in 'Down By Love' (2016). Aussilloux is known for her roles as Clara in 'Bye Bye Morons' (2020), Etudiante fliquette in 'Looking for Teddy' (2018) and Chole Forrest from 'The Inside Game' (2018-2019). Erdogan is known for his roles as Messenger Valet in 'Grace of Monaco' (2014), Paul in 'Family Business' (2017-2019) and Tom in 'Spiral' (2014-2020). His other works include 'Les têtes de l'emploi' (2016), 'Père fils thérapie!' (2016), 'Love at First Heist' (2016), and 'Marseille' (2016-2018).

Other members of the cast include Doudou Masta, Julien Sarazin as a brotherhood member, Geoffrey Carlassare as a Noble, Coline Beal as Ophélie, Mamadou Doumbia, Julien Frison as Donatien de Montargis, Isabel Aimé González-Sola as Katell, Amélia Lacquemant as Madeleine, Laurent Lucas as Charles de Montargis, Dimitri Storoge as Edmond de Pérouse and Gaia Weiss as Marianne.

Creators

The series is created by writer Aurélien Molas, with Jérémie Rozan, Edouard Salier, and Julien Trousselier serving as directors. François Lardenois and Molas serve as producers.

Trailer

The trailer is an intense one that shows the stark differences in attitude and pride when it comes to the noble and the commoners. When a doctor tries to search for a clue on a murdered dead peasant and finds blue blood, it unravels the mysterious disease that has taken over the noblility.
