QUEENS, NEW YORK: A 13-year-old girl was arrested on Tuesday, August 23, in connection with the death of yellow cab driver Kutin Gyimah in Queens earlier this month. The teen was charged with gang assault and theft of services, and is the fourth suspect to be nabbed for fatally beating Kutin, 53, on August 13. Police are still looking to charge another female suspect.
Kutin was reportedly killed after he chased down a group of five men and women who tried to rob him in the Rockaways. According to law enforcement sources, surveillance video taken from a pole near Beach 54th Street and Arverne Boulevard showed his cab pulling up around 6.20 am. Five passengers were seen fleeing from the backseat. Kutin managed to catch one of the suspects and held them down when the rest of the group returned and began to beat him, New York Post reported.

Kutin stood up after the assault and was then punched by one member of the group. He fell to the ground backward and hit his head on the sidewalk, according to the footage, following which he stopped moving. “These murderers must be caught and we are offering a $15,000 reward … All funeral expenses will be covered by the owners of Big Apple Taxi Fleet Management where Mr [Gyimah] worked,” Fernando Mateo, spokesman for the New York State Federation of Taxi Drivers, said at the time.

Three other suspects, including two men and a teenage girl, were earlier charged in connection with the case. Besides a 15-year-old girl who was arrested, 20-year-old Austin Amos and 20-year-old Nickolas Porter turned themselves in. All the suspects have been charged with gang assault and theft of services, and Amos is facing additional charges of manslaughter and assault. He has been accused of delivering the blow that caused Kutin to fall to the ground and fatally hit his head on the sidewalk.
Kutin's wife, who shares four children with her husband, had earlier opened up about the incident. "My husband was a good man," Abigail Gyimah said, according to CBS News. "He was everything we had. He was my children's hero. He was my backbone. He was the one I look up to. I look up to God, but aside [from] God, he was the only one I looked up to."
