Kourtney Kardashian calls son Rocky’s birth ‘God’s plan’ as reality star conceived ‘100%’ naturally after multiple failed IVFs
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Kourtney Kardashian called her son Rocky’s birth “God’s plan” after she conceived him naturally following a difficult journey with in vitro fertilization (IVF). In a recent Instagram QnA session, Kourtney revealed how she and her husband, Travis Barker, went through five failed IVF cycles and three egg retrievals without success.
After deciding to take a break from IVF treatments before their wedding in May 2022, Kourtney’s body relaxed. She emphasized the importance of faith, saying, “I believed in God’s plan for my life.” She also focused on optimizing her health and prayed a lot. In a happy turn of events, Kourtney conceived Rocky naturally on Valentine’s Day in 2023, a year after stopping IVF treatments. She proudly noted that she “got pregnant 100% naturally.”
Why did Kourtney undergo fetal surgery?
Kourtney Kardashian underwent emergency fetal surgery in September 2023 due to a serious complication detected during a routine scan by her high-risk doctor. Just before Travis Barker was set to leave for his tour, the doctor noticed something concerning about her pregnancy and recommended she see specialists immediately. "He wanted me to see a couple of specialists," Kardashian explained during the premiere episode of Season 5 of 'The Kardashians'. The specialists determined that immediate fetal surgery was necessary to address the problem. "I had to go in for fetal surgery, where they do surgery on the baby, which was terrifying," she said.
Given the urgency, Kourtney had to quickly prepare for the surgery. "I was like who can take me because they were like, you can't eat or drink and someone has to drive you," she recounted. Her mother, Kris Jenner, drove her to the hospital while Travis rushed back home. Blink-182 announced on social media that Barker was returning home for an "urgent family matter."
Kourtney Kardashian reveals contracting COVID-19 before baby shower
Kourtney Kardashian recently shared that she contracted COVID-19 from her husband, Travis Barker, right before their baby shower in September 2023. The baby shower was held to celebrate their upcoming baby, Rocky Thirteen, who was born in November.
On the Season 5 premiere of 'The Kardashians', Kourtney explained what happened. Travis Barker had just returned home from a European tour and suggested taking a COVID test as a precaution. His first test came back negative, so the couple felt it was safe to be close and ended up making out for six hours. During this time, Kourtney noticed that Travis’s head felt unusually hot. She said, "Not a making-out type of warm. Like really warm."
Concerned, Travis took a second COVID test, which turned out to be positive. Shortly after, Kourtney also tested positive for COVID-19. This was especially worrying because Kourtney was in a high-risk pregnancy. Kourtney immediately informed her mother, Kris Jenner, who was organizing a Disneyland-themed baby shower at her home. Kris was very worried and shared her concerns with the event planner, Mindy Weiss. Kris said, "Travis has COVID. I’m shaking. I just want Kourtney to be OK. She’s a high-risk pregnancy. I don’t know why I’m emotional. I just want her to be OK. I’m a little worried."
Despite the situation, Kourtney and Travis attended the baby shower but stayed in a designated area away from the other guests to prevent spreading the virus. Kourtney later described the event as the "baby shower of my dreams" in an Instagram post, showing her appreciation despite the health scare.
