Kit Harington's 'The Eternals' casting as Black Knight has Marvel and 'Game of Thrones' fans over the moon with excitement

The memes have already started to roll in and fans can't wait to see the English actor join his former 'GoT' co-star Richard Madden in the MCU. The fact that he'll also have a cool magic sword is an added bonus

'Game of Thrones' (GoT) might have come to an end but Kit Harington is already on his way to his next big franchise. It was revealed during the D23 Expo 2019, Marvel has roped in Harington to play the part of Dane Whitman/Black Knight in the upcoming movie 'The Eternals'

The Black Knight is a pretty suitable role for Harington as the character is, at least in terms of skillset, quite similar to Jon Snow. In the comics, Dane Whitman is an expert martial artist and swordsman, something one Twitter user pointed out to in a tweet saying: "@Marvel: Hey Kit Harrington want to make a movie with us? Kit: OMG yes! My days of playing with swords and stuff is totally behind me! Marvel: errrr..."

It's worth mentioning that as cool as Jon's sword in 'Game of Thrones' may have been, the Black Knight's weapon is definitely an upgrade. For starters, it's a magical family heirloom created by none other than Merlin himself.

Unfortunately, it also has a horrible blood curse on it that can drive its wielder insane if they use it to kill, which does seem like a bit of a drawback. Still, not a bad deal for an enchanted sword that can cut through anything.

Another Twitter user who goes by @RoscoIX shared how happy he is at Harington's casting, saying, "Disney out here trying to save Aegon Targaryens legacy and I love to see it. The one true king has one more shot at getting that crowning moment, killer armor and a flaming sword."

Richard Madden, who played Rob Stark in 'GoT', has already been cast as Ikaris in the movie, which makes Harington the second alumnus of the fantasy series to join the film. The English actor's fans have received the news quite enthusiastically and the memes have already started rolling in. Some eagle-eyed fans have shared a scene from 'GoT' on Twitter where Madden's Rob Stark seems to hilariously foreshadow Harington's casting as the Black Knight.

The upcoming film already boasts an ensemble cast with Richard Madden as Ikaris, Angelina Jolie as Thena, Kumail Nanjiani as Kingo, Lauren Ridloff as Makkari, Bryan Tyree Henry as Phastos, Salma Hayek as Ajax, Lia McHugh as Sprite and Don Lee as Gilgamesh. Gemma Chan ('Crazy Rich Asians') has also been confirmed for the movie in the role of Sersi.

'The Eternals' will be making its way to theaters on November 6, 2020.
