Kevin Spacey claims people are 'ready to hire' him the second he is cleared of sexual assault charges
LONDON, ENGLAND: Oscar-winning actor Kevin Spacey is feeling confident about a comeback in his career in the event that he is cleared of the sexual assault charges made against him in London. The 63-year-old actor, whose trial is scheduled to start this month, confirmed with ZEITmagazin (via NBC News) that certain producers and directors have shown an interest in collaborating with him but are holding off until after he is found 'not guilty' to bring him on set.
Two-time Oscar winner Spacey has been accused of 12 sex offenses stemming from alleged incidents that occurred between 2001 and 2013. According to The Guardian, the four-week trial is scheduled to begin on June 28. Spacey pleaded not guilty last July, in 2022, to five of those charges — four counts of sexual assault and one of inciting another person to engage in sexual behavior without their consent. He later entered a not guilty plea to seven additional sexual crime counts in January this year, in 2023, after allegations that he sexually assaulted three men while serving as the artistic director of London's Old Vic theater between 2004 and 2015, as per EW.
'There are people right now who are ready to hire me'
In an interview with Germany’s ZEITmagazin, 63-year-old 'House of Cards' alum claimed he has contacts who are prepared to recruit him "the moment I am cleared of these charges." These employers are apparently "ready to move forward" the moment Spacey is set free of all charges. Spacey seems to be certain that he will be exonerated of these allegations. This shouldn't come as a surprise given that his entire persona over the past few years as tipped into bizarre territory.
Spacey in his statement said: "I know that there are people right now who are ready to hire me the moment I am cleared of these charges in London. The second that happens, they’re ready to move forward." Spacey further added: "It’s a time in which a lot of people are very afraid that if they support me, they will be canceled." This ZEITmagazin interview took place last month and was touted as his first media interview since the controversy.
'I’m not trying to even the score'
Spacey discussed how his life has altered since the #MeToo movement began in 2017 when he was initially accused of sexual misconduct by a number of women, which led to his termination from the Netflix series 'House of Cards.' Spacey dubbed those days "the days when the s--t was hitting the fan," adding that he was "still processing" them and "not ready to talk about it yet."
He expressed skepticism about his ability to repair his media reputation in the future. While he acknowledged that he had begun writing, he insisted that he had no intention of writing about the allegations leveled against him. But Spacey asserted that he had no interest in "trying to even the score" and doesn't see himself adapting his story into any major motion pictures anytime soon. He also claimed, "I have no interest in fighting something that's not worth fighting against."

Spacey asserted that he believed the charges against him "won't mean anything" after "10 years." He also claimed, "My work will live longer than I will, and that’s what will be remembered." Referring to the case against him, he countered, "The moment scrutiny is applied, these things fall apart. That's what happened in the [Anthony] Rapp trial, and that's what will happen in this case."
'I'm not going to stop working'
According to Spacey, he currently feels "back at the beginning of my career, when nobody wanted me." But that doesn't always suggest that his career is over. Spacey has roles in the upcoming indie film 'Control' as well as 'The Man Who Drew God,' a documentary from Italy, and 'Once Upon a Time in Croatia.' Spacey stated: "Just because I was being benched for a while, I'm not going to stop working. I don't want to get rusty. I'm ready," as per Entertainment Weekly.
