After the Knicks coughed away a 28-point lead in the Nets' eventual 111-106 triumph, the former MVP, who sat out the game between the New York City rivals on Wednesday night with a damaged MCL, noted the atmosphere and crowd noise at Madison Square Garden. With 7.7 seconds left, rookie Cam Thomas scored a tremendous 3-pointer to seal the game, and Durant appreciated the reaction he heard -- a lot of shouts for the visitors.

Durant tweeted shortly after the game, "Nets fans were loud in the barc....I mean the garden tonight." The remark has particular weight because it comes from Durant, who was chastised for opting for a softer landing spot with the Nets and Barclays Center fans over the Knicks and Garden faithful during free agency in 2019.

The Garden has long been famed for its electrifying atmosphere and fervent fan base, but the Knicks have provided little to thrill the crowd this season. They were down to 25-34 on Wednesday, and Durant used the opportunity to slam the Knicks for failing to show up for their crosstown rivalry.

Durant looked to throw his thumb back in the air at one point late in the game as if to signal Knicks supporters to leave. The Nets are now 31-27 and aim to add Durant and Ben Simmons, who were acquired in the James Harden deal to the 76ers, to the mix after the All-Star break.

Various tweeter users reacted to his tweet, where one of them responded saying, "Hi Kevin- I noticed you were able to walk around all game but didn’t play. My fifth year of high school I tore my pectoral and didn’t miss a single game and I was only a junior. You’re supposed to be a veteran- what kind of an example is that giving the kids? Man up."

Another tweet read, "You don’t sell out playoff games. RELAX. Your team has to cut promos. Knicks/Hawks was more live than any game at the Barclays. And knicks fans are way louder in BK. Come talk to us when you acknowledge Benoit Benjamin, Drazen, Kenny, Keith and Kerry. And Jay Will," ending with a #burner.
