Kawika Singson: Hero adventurer climbs into volcano vent to rescue dog trapped for TWO DAYS
A Hawaiian adventurer climbed down into a 25-foot volcanic fissure to rescue a missing dog that was trapped in there for two days. Kawika Singson is famously known for getting dangerously close to erupting volcanos usually to take a picture. So when a missing dog was tracked through its GPS collar to a fissure in Kilauea volcano located on the island of Hilo, Kawika Singson was the first person to be called to rescue the dog.
“I received a text about a dog that fell in a volcanic fissure deep in the tropical rain forest, so I made the 100-mile drive to try to help rescue the dog,” he said in a video he posted on YouTube. The owner of the dog was a teenager named Cody who told that Malka, his dog, was trapped for two days before Singson came to rescue the dog.

Singson went to the volcano vent with climbing equipment and began his descent at constant risk of being exposed to sudden high temperatures and toxic gases. He also recorded his descent through his headcam that showed him maneuvering to reach the whimpering dog.
In the video, Malka is seen hiding between numerous rock plates and was initially fearful of Singson approaching. The video footage then shows Singson grabbing the dog by the collar and securing it with the safety harness and then slowly ascending to the top of the tight fissure. "Another happy ending," Singson tells the camera. "We got Malka out of this hole."
Singson is then seen heaving the dog out of the volcanic vent before even pulling himself out. Luckily the dog survived the 25-foot fall and remained unharmed even without food or water. The well-known Hawaiian figure had previously withstood intense heat standing dangerously close to the lava flow on top of the Hawaii volcano in 2013. He then stood on a very thin layer of rock just inches above the magma. The rock was so heated that Kawika’s tripod and shoes caught fire.
In 2015, the adventurer also managed to record the Kilauea volcano eruption enduring extreme landscape and rough waters. The scenic footage taken in between Waikupanaha and Hawaii Volcano National Park is very satisfying to watch. In 2016, the heroic adventurer also retrieved the remains of bombs that were dropped on Mauna Loa volcano in an attempt to divert lava to protect the vicinity of Hilo.
