LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Billionaire real-estate developer Rick Caruso is getting some serious mainstream support as several A-list celebrities came forward to endorse the candidate for LA Mayor. Celebs like Gwenyth Paltrow, Chris Pratt, Snoop Dogg, Elon Musk, Kim Kardashian, and more have publicly endorsed and urged people to vote for Caruso. Now, Katy Perry, who has been vocal about her choice for the mayor has posted a picture on her Instagram voting for the candidate and sparked outrage online.

Katy Perry took to her Instagram to show her support for the 63-year-old candidate who went up against Congresswoman Karen Bass. The 38-year-old singer wrote, "I am voting for a myriad of reasons (see the news) but in particular because Los Angeles is a hot mess atm. #letsgocaruso #yestomeasure28 #yestomeasure1 #doyoubutjustuseyourvoteok" Caruso has previously served as a former president of the Los Angeles Police Commission and has also served as a commissioner for the Los Angeles Department of Water. Perry has been a known advocate for Rick Caruso. Back in June, she posted a tweet supporting the candidate writing, "RICK CARUSO FTW" and faced online backlash then as well.

'Hypocrite' Katy Perry slammed for pro-choice stance after supporting pro-life billionaire Rick Caruso

The controversial Instagram post by Perry comes right after the 'Guardians of the Galaxy' actor Chris Pratt broadcasted his support for Caruso in an Instagram story writing, "I've lived in LA for over 20 years. It's been great to me. In that time I've seen what many residents here have seen, the city's gradual decline into pain and utter disarray." He continued, "If you're an LA voter, I urge you to vote for @rickcarusola. He's a builder. He knows how to get s--t done. He's the guy for our city. Rick Caruso for LA Mayor." Amidst the growing support, people seem to be growing unhappy especially after Perry posted a picture of herself voting for Caruso.

Outrage sparks as Katy Perry votes for Rick Caruso

One angry user tweeted, "As much as the right try to spin it, Katy Perry voting for Rick Caruso is not an indication of anything other than a rich white woman voting for a fake democrat who will ultimately have no effect on the quality of her life but will worsen the lives of many others." A user trolled both, Perry and Caruso, saying, "thank god katy perry has zero influence in the year 2022 because this is the most airhead shit I’ve ever seen in my life. please don’t vote for rick caruso in California"

One user compared Katy Perry to Taylor Swift saying, "katy perry turning off ig comments after telling everyone to vote for rick caruso…girl this is why taylor is beating you in the culture wars" Another user who supports Karen Bass came forward and tweeted, "Katy Perry voting for Rick Caruso for LA Mayor is incredibly disappointing. Please vote Karen Bass a community oriented politician not a businessman with a redundant platform on homelessness and and a history of donating to anti-choice orgs and initiatives"

A Katy Perry fan, visibly disappointed with this decision, tweeted, "I've been hyping her up a lot lately and love her SO much, but i'm very disappointed in katy perry's decision to support rick caruso's campaign for mayor." Another user tweeted, "Katy Perry voting for Republican Rick Caruso for LA Mayor This just shows you just how bad things have gotten. That a celebrity would not only vote R -- but then publicly post it is something else. You could say the energy is shifting."
