Katy Perry slammed for promoting father's nonpartisan 'Nothing But American' clothing line: 'Delete this mess'
Katy Perry's fans were left disappointed after the singer shared an advertisement for her father's nonpartisan clothing line after the 2020 presidential elections. Perry's father, Keith Hudson, who is a Christian preacher, is reportedly attempting to unite America with his clothing line that aims at getting rid of partisan confrontations. The singer took to her Instagram on Saturday, November 28, and shared a video of her father plugging the new Nothing But American clothing brand with a message, acknowledging that the father-daughter duo often disagree with each other. The 'American Idol' judge captioned the video, writing: "We haven’t always seen [eye-to-eye] but I’m proud of my dad n bro for coming up with this!”
Hudson, in the video, could be seen wearing a shirt from the new clothing line and speaking directly to the camera. "Hey everyone, I’m Keith and I want to ask you a question,” he says. “Are you tired of the division that is destroying our country? Are you sick of losing your family and friends because they just don’t agree with your political views? Well, I am, and I know there’s a lot of people out there that have the same feeling in the same way.”
"No matter what you believe, at the end of the day we’re all Americans and I designed this T-shirt because I want people to know that, even though you may have a different religion or political view than I do, I still will be there for you and I’ll still consider you my friend, my neighbor and my fellow American," the clothing line owner continued.
Although Hudson's message was of unity, several of the singer's fans did not appreciate her move and suggested she delete the post promoting her dad's clothing line. One user wrote: "ok katy love u but maybe not this." Another user said: "Delete this mess. This is not about political differences, this is about human rights!" A third critic said: "This post is kinda disappointing tbh Would rather not (re)connect with people who intentionally voted against my rights and immigrant family." One of her fans added: "Girl you make stanning you VERY difficult…"
One suggested that the move could put her career in jeopardy, writing: "Girl why are you purposely throwing your career down the drain!!!” One user also mentioned President Donald Trump's supporters in their comment, writing: "Girl this ain’t it! This ain’t it! Please no! When someone voted for Trump & Co... they’re voting for Homophobia, Racist and so much more! It’s nothing American about that!"
The 36-year-old singer was also previously denounced for attempting to encourage unity amidst a growing political divide in the country soon after Biden was projected as the winner of the 2020 presidential elections. "The first thing I did when the presidency was called is text and call my family members who do not agree and tell them I love them and am here for them. #FamilyFirst. Call your family today. Happy Sunday," the singer had written.
