Spoiler alert for 'Katy Keene' Season 1

In this episode titled 'Song for a Winter's Night', Katy Keene (Lucy Hale) turns to her boss Gloria Grandbilt (Katherine LaNasa) for help to secure her future as a fashion designer. Tensions rise when roommates Josie McCoy (Ashleigh Murray) and Pepper Smith (Julia Chan) get into a fight while Jorge aka Ginger Lopez (Jonny Beauchamp) breaks Keene's number one rule.

Keene has always remembered her mother for the talent she possessed and after inheriting her sewing machine, she decides to make one of her mother's dreams come true. Keene prepares to go to fashion school. She has started her portfolio and has three amazing outfits to showcase but she needs a push from the upper east side. Yes, we know it's a very 'Gossip Girl' remnant. Already living in a cut-throat city of New York, where a cesspool of dreams die with the fierce competition, Keene asks her boss at Lacy's for help.

A recommendation letter from Gloria could mean Katy's future at a fashion school is secured, but there's one condition, she has to make Gloria's a dress in 24 hours. With the encouragement of her friends and an old interview video of Gloria describing her perfect outfit, Keene decides to sketch out a fit and flare dress for her boss. What she didn't have planned was to make one without her trusty sewing machine.

With Jorge breaking her machine in an attempt to sew a dress for himself, she decides to use the material from his dress to make a dress for Gloria. Of course, there's another obstacle, the interview video has Gloria shunning a fit and flare dress as overrated. If Keene has anything it's a flair for epic outfit designs and her angel mother's blessings. An original Keene outfit was conjured up with four helping hands.

Jorge's selfishness in the episode aside, we see him struggling with letting his parents in on the fact that he dresses up in drag and goes by Ginger Lopez. He accidentally runs into his mom while in drag. When he finally comes out as a homosexual, they shut him out. Now, while they are healing from that blowout, he is nervous about how they would feel if he told them about Ginger. A quick highlight of this stigma adds to the reality portrayed in this comic book universe.

Meanwhile, Josie McCoy (Ashleigh Murray) is faced with a rather unpleasant surprise. After having found out that Alexander and Alexandra Cabot are not only step-siblings but also past lovers, she decided to wash her hands of their sibling rivalry and Alexanders' weird ex-girlfriend phase. Unfortunately for her, she signed an NDA before she stormed off and now the 'Kissing Cabot' has made headlines. With Mr Cabot, the father behind the music empire, on a "warpath" for her head, Josie has to find the culprit behind the press leak.

There is only one person she knows that has her name on the newspaper payroll and that would be Pepper Smith, an elite columnist. New York's temperatures continue to drop during the polar vortex as tensions rise in the apartment. Josie accuses Pepper but she denies her involvement in the headline reveals. Yes, as we assumed, it was just Alexandra on a mission to get Josie out of the Cabot path since Mr Cabot had agreed to financially support Josie's EP. Furthermore, Josie finds out about Pepper's living condition, a secret she's managed to keep hidden. It seems fair, considering Josie never told her friends about the 20k check she had received from Mr Cabot.

A Spice Girls jam session of 'My Strongest Suit' ensued to bring in inspiration but brought along with it more arguments among the four roommates. It's all good though, they are four friends in New York and their beef isn't something a good old late-night heart-to-heart and takeout can't fix.

'Katy Keene' airs Thursdays at 8 pm EST on The CW.
