BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS: The daughter of House Democratic Whip Katherine Clark was taken into custody at 9.30 pm on Saturday, January 21, 2023, for allegedly attacking a police officer and spray-painting a monument during a protest. Riley Dowell, 23, was arrested and accused of assault using a deadly weapon, destruction or injury of personal property, and damage of property by graffiti.

The culprit was identified by the Boston Police Department as "Jared Dowell." Clark referred to her daughter as "Riley" in a statement she sent on Sunday, January 22. In the past, she has discussed how one of her children is non-binary. "I love Riley, and this is a very difficult time in the cycle of joy and pain in parenting," the Massachusetts Representative tweeted, adding, "This will be evaluated by the legal system, and I am confident in that process."

Around 9.30 pm on Saturday, officers were summoned to a protest near the Parkman Bandstand Monument in the Boston Common. When they got there, they reportedly saw Clark's daughter Riley Dowell spray-painting "ACAB," the acronym for "All Cops Are Bastards," and "NO COP CITY," as reported by Fox News.

The report stated that it's an eerie resemblance to a police training facility in the Atlanta suburbs that has ignited protests after cops shot and killed a protester who allegedly opened fire on them earlier this week, hurting one of them. After police shot and killed 26-year-old environmental activist Manuel Esteban Paez Teran, protests broke out in Atlanta this past week over a new police training facility. According to investigators, Teran shot and critically injured a Georgia state trooper before police opened fire. 

During Dowell's arrest, a group of 20 protestors "began to surround officers while screaming profanities though megaphones on the public street, causing traffic to come to a standstill," according to police. The demonstrators were "interfering with the arrest," according to the report, and "an officer was hit in the face and could be seen bleeding from the nose and mouth."

Meanwhile, the internet blasted the Democratic leader for poor parenting in the aftermath of her daughter's arrest. A social user tweeted, "How about make sure they don’t commit crimes? "Another wrote, "Maybe it's time to step down from politics and be a mom to your child!!" Another person wrote, "You are an embarrassment and you should resign." "Be a better parent," remarked another. Another individual wrote, "Looks like bad parenting." "Your child assaulted a police officer and committed an act of insurrection, said another. A user tweeted, "Apples dont fall far from the tree."

Another arrest was made at the Parkman Bandstand an hour later at 10.27 pm, reports BOSTON.com. Andrea Colletti, 27, of Brighton was charged with damage to the property using graffiti, destruction of personal property, and resisting arrest. She allegedly tried to flee on foot before being detained following a short scuffle, according to the police. Dowell and Colletti are both set to appear in Boston Municipal Court.

As per Clark's office, Dowell was designated male at birth and was recognized by Boston police using her birth name that is Jared Dowell. Later, the rep confirmed her daughter's arrest in Boston on Sunday.
