Kate McKinnon trolls Marjorie Taylor Greene for 'Jewish space lasers' theory, SNL skit called 'too accurate'
From the attack on the US Capitol on January 6 to the inauguration of President Joe Biden and all of the Covid-19 developments in between, so much has happened since the last episode of 'Saturday Night Live' aired. Now the latest episode is a comical sketch to respond to the news. Show host, Kate McKinnon trolled Marjorie Taylor Greene for 'Jewish Space Lasers' conspiracy theory.
The show started with a glance at the government and included special guest Congresswoman, education committee member and QAnon promoter Marjorie Taylor Greene (played by Cecily Strong). It didn’t help that Strong’s Greene sat down, offered Kate a gun from her purse and then launched into a list of her theories, including that both the Parkland shooting and 9/11 were hoaxes. About the former she said, “The teachers were actors and the children were dolls,” while she wondered aloud, “Did anyone actually see it happen?” about the latter. Additionally, she claimed the California wildfires were created by Jewish space lasers.
“Those are real things you believe and tell other people about?” Kate asked. “You represent the US People can Google you and it’ll say, ‘She’s a real member of the U.S. government.'” Concluding that the government doesn’t work, Kate said she regretted “not taking that gun” before moving onto look at the state of the stock market, with Pete Davidson joining her as Derrick Boner, “the new majority shareholder of GameStop.”
As soon as the news made its way to social media, people started talking about it. One Internet user said, "They haven't found a conspiracy theory yet that they did NOT find compelling. That's an indictment of our education system here in the USA where logic classes are kept behind university paywalls! Logic should be required for graduation from high school!!" While another one requested Greene's suspension and tweeted, "This depiction is a bit *too* accurate... 262k people agree: Marjorie Taylor Greene must resign or be expelled. Another one commented, "Just amazing when you see it all layed out in front of you like that. She's a United States congress person." While another one wrote "She was elected by people who believe what she believes. That being the case, its government working as intended. Its the education system which failed us!" One tweeted: "Another spot on skit from Kate. #SNL." Another one wrote, "SNL doesn’t even have to bother parodying anything anymore They’re just like “Here is actual real shit going on, not even our writers could make this shit up”" Another praised Kate calling her 'national treasure'.
