Why is Kamala Harris' stepdaughter Ella Emhoff being slammed for nepotism? Contract with IMG sparks controversy
'If Ella Emhoff deserves a modeling gig than so does all every generic Jewish girl I went to high school with, there's 300 of them,' a Twitter user commented
Vice President Kamala Harris’ stepdaughter Ella Emhoff landed a modeling contract with IMG a week after going viral on Twitter with her eye-catching inauguration outfit. During Joe Biden’s inauguration ceremony, Harris’ step-daughter Emohh turned heads as she wore an embellished Miu Miu coat and custom burgundy Batsheva dress. Emhoff’s pictures soon went viral and now has become an internet sensation. However, there are several who thinks that there are more beautiful models in the world who deserved a contract from the international agency, and the only reason Emhoff landed the deal is because of her stepmother.
Ella Emhoff as IMG’s Model:
Emhoff, 20, is the daughter of second gentleman Douglas Emhoff and stepdaughter of Harris. For the inauguration day of 2021, she was styled by Jill Lincoln and Jordan Johnson, who told The Hollywood Reporter that Emhoff is very passionate and wanted to take risks with her choice of attires as she wished to express herself through the clothes she wears. Her clothes caught everyone’s attention including, IMG. IMG tweeted on January 28, 2021: “NOW REPRESENTING: #EllaEmhoff!” The acclaimed agency represents stars like Gisele Bundchen, Miranda Kerr, Gigi Hadid, and Bella Hadid. Agency’s president Ivan Bart told the New York Times that Harris’ stepdaughter “communicates this moment in time.”
"I was pretty surprised when everything with IMG was happening because when I was younger, I never saw that as being part of my timeline. As someone who, like a lot of young girls out there, had self-confidence issues, it is intimidating and scary to go into this world that is hyper-focused on you and the body," Emhoff told the New York Times.
Emhoff is currently looking forward to being a part of a modeling industry that supports diversity and allows people to explore themselves. She also told New York Times that this opportunity with IMG would let her help many people.
Ella Emhoff slammed for ‘Nepotism’:
After the news surfaced that Harris’ stepdaughter Emhoff has landed a modeling contract, several people slammed her online. One user wrote, “[IMG Models] kiss a*s much? Signing Ella Emhoff as a model is such a joke. If she wasn’t [Kamala Harris] stepdaughter, you wouldn’t give her the time of day. Give me a break.” While another user wrote, “If Ella Emhoff deserves a modeling gig than so does all every generic Jewish girl I went to high school with (there’s ~ 300 of them).” Another wrote, “If anyone can give me a reasonable explanation as to why Ella Emhoff got signed to img i’ll accept it, but until then it’s f***ng dumb.” Another user simply wrote, “glad nepotism is alive and well.”

However, there are some who came in Emhoff’s support and wrote, “21-year-old Ella Emhoff is getting more crap for ‘nepotism’ than the almost 40 year old children of the prior president for illegally jumping onto his administration and making WH sanctioned trips to China for their own businesses calling themselves “ambassadors.” GOOD FOR ELLA!”
