Who is Seungri’s lawyer?

Seungri appointed a lawyer in 2019 after a number of allegations were lodged against him. The lawyer named Son Byung-ho used to be a police officer, according to reports. Byung-ho has graduated from Korea University with a degree in law. The lawyer has worked in a major law firm named Lee & Ko until 2015 before joining the new agency Hyun Law.

In the recent hearing of the case, Seungri’s lawyer talked about the alleged assault in which Seungri’s involvement has been criticized. He stated that Seungri and his friends were celebrating the end of the year and there was an actress present. According to a Twitter translation of the CCTV footage recorded, “A person referred to as 'A' appears in the room, greets Seungri and disappears. 'B' is also seen talking to Seungri in the hallway."

"At some point 'A' is seen moving with a person identified as a gangster and Yoo In-seok is seen in and out of the bar several times." Now, Seungri's lawyer explains the situation. According to what he says, Seungri and his friends were celebrating the end of the year. It was December 30.

It says, “Among them, there were well-known celebrities. Seungri and the actress, who arrived earlier than the group, were talking, and 'A' suddenly appeared again and opened the door and the incident happened. 'A' glanced at the actress, so Seungri felt bad, but he was managing his expression because he was an entertainer, so he thought he should not be embroiled in rumors. The lawyer points out that 'A's behavior was rude, and no one likes when a drunk stranger storms through the door where someone is having a good time with friends.”

The lawyer explained that Seungri is seen touching his phone “without any particular reason, just like many young people do today. The lawyer also said one of the two people that appeared on the scene in luxury cars and are seen talking to Seungri, is a bar owner, the other is a bodyguard. Seungri does not know the name or face of these people, he is not related to the joint crime. He further adds that the person accused of a joint crime also states that they were not ordered by Seungri. As a result the lawyer questions the application of instigation of violence charges on Seungri.”

According to the report, the court has decided to continue the witness interrogation of two victims of the alleged assault, Yoo In-seok, and a gangster present on the scene. It added that “Jung Joon-young would appear as a witness in Seungri's prostitution mediation and prostitution and alleged instigation of violence charges.”

Earlier in January, a whistleblower on the case Kim Sang Kyo alleged that SNSD’s Hyoyeon "knew" the top actress who was present at the scene. He stated,  “Who was the top actress so high on drugs and drooling, that the police officers weren't even allowed inside the club that night? Hyoyeon, you must have seen who the VVIP customers were that night. And the man who was high on drugs when he beat me inside the club, you must know if he's that druggie who was Seungri's friend.”

SM Entertainment later denied Hyoyeon’s involvement in the case clarifying she was only the DJ and not present at the crime scene. Read all about it here.
