The nominees for this year's Juno Awards were announced on January 28 with Alessia Cara set to host the prestigious event. The 49th annual Juno Awards will take place on March 15 at the SaskTel Centre in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.

The Canadian pop singer-songwriter Alessia Cara has the greatest total of six nominations with Tory Lanez at a close second with five nominations.

Alessia has been nominated for fan choice, single of the year, album of the year, artist of the year, pop album of the year and songwriter of the year. Lanez received nominations for fan choice, artist of the year, rap recording of the year and also got two nods for R&B/soul recording of the year.

Meanwhile, Jon Levine is in the running for producer of the year for his work on Alessia's EP 'This Summer'.

According to the Juno site, the 'Here' singer Alessia is already a two-time Juno winner and has accumulated 19 Juno nominations. Not to mention, she also won the Best New Artist Grammy in 2018.

According to Billboard, before bringing Alessia onstage at CBC headquarters in Toronto, Allan Reid said of the 23-year-old pop singer, "Besides being a great artist, she has also become an incredible role model for young women, and, I must say, she is wise beyond her years." Reid is president and CEO of the Canadian Academy of Recordings Arts and Sciences (CARAS).

Alessia spoke of fellow Torontonian Shawn Mendes, who she toured globally with. "For those of you who are hoping it was someone else like Shawn Mendes, I'm sorry, it is me. You're stuck with me." She went on to add, "This is really, really exciting. I'm so excited to be a part of Canada's biggest night in music in this way. This is the first time I've been the sole host of anything, so I hope I don't disappoint."

Chuckling, she said, "My first reaction was 'Why?' My second was 'No way.' And then my third was obviously 'Yes' because I'm here. But yeah, I'm super excited. Thank you to everyone who decided that I can do this. I'm very, very honored."
