A mother of five has received criticism for taking the Elf on the Shelf prank a little too far after she cut a lock of each of her children's hair while they slept and "blamed the elf". With Christmas approaching, Julissa Sahm took part in the holiday tradition which involves toy elves being kept in different places of the house, usually up to some mischief.

However, according to the internet, Sahm dragged the tradition a bit too much for which she has been brutally criticized, with the prank being called "extreme" and "wasteful". While netizens find the elaborate Elf on the Shelf pranks carried out by the mom "disrespectful", Sahm claims that her children love the "fun" game, The Sun reported.

The clip shared on her Instagram account begins with a shot of the family's elf named Cookie placed before five locks of hair. A note sitting right beside his head read, "You guys needed a haircut. No need to thank me - Cookie." "The kids always look forward to the notes," the mother captioned her contentious video. In the rest of the clip, Sahm can be seen snipping a few centimeters of hair from each of her five kids. "Cookie is a very mischievous elf," she said, adding "No kids were harmed in the making of this," as a cheeky disclaimer.

Moments later, the mother of five was attacked for her "violating" prank in the comments section. "I don't understand this trend of cutting kids hair and clothing in their sleep without their knowledge for likes. Really disrespectful," a comment read. "That's too much now," another user wrote.

"I just think things like this must breed distrust and is a total violation of safety and respect. I get it's for fun and a joke but what does this teach children," a fellow mother wrote.

Some fellow parents said that they also wanted to try the funny prank on their children. "I'm definitely doing this," a user commented. "I love this! These kids are going to cherish these memories forever! Great job Momma!" another wrote.

Now, this is not the first time Sahm involved her scissors in a prank and blamed the elf. She was also slammed in 2021 for cutting her children's pajamas to make a blanket for the elf. The mother posted a clip where she can be seen cutting small holes in her children’s pajamas as they slept for the elf to wear the pajama. The elf carried a note that read, "I was cold and couldn't find a blanket, I hope you don't mind - Cookie."
