Release date
The release date for the upcoming sequel and fourth installment of the 'John Wick' franchise was announced through a text message — the same service that revealed the first trailer for Chapter 3 of 'John Wick'. "You have served. You will be of service. 'John Wick: Chapter 4' is coming — May 21, 2021," revealed the content of the message. Now the film has been delayed to May 27, 2022, one of many theatrical releases pushed back due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Plot
Primarily an American neo-noir action thriller story that was created by Derek Kolstad, the franchise consists of action thriller films so far. Keanu Reeves stars as the eponymous character who happens to be a retired, but deadly hitman seeking vengeance. The plot for the fourth installment hasn't been released yet, but in an interview with Indie Wire, director of the last three parts Chad Stahelski revealed that no matter the story, the ending won't be a happy one.
Creator
The franchise was created by Kolstad, an American screenwriter, who had initially sold the script for 'John Wick' under the name 'Scorn', to Thunder Road Pictures. It was Reeves who had suggested to alter the name of the movie to the titular character after he agreed to star in the film in 2013.
Director
Chad Stahelski had co-directed the first installment of the franchise in 2014 with David Leitch, and solo-directed the next two sequels, that is chapters 2 and 3. The stuntman-turned-director teased about the upcoming fourth part to Indie Wire, saying: "John may survive all this shit, but at the end of it, there's no happy ending. He's got nowhere to go."
