While the world s still gushing about the latest and third 'John Wick' installment, titled 'John Wick Chapter 3 - Parabellum', good news arrives in the form of a fourth movie's release date getting announced. That's right, 'John Wick' will have a chapter four and it will return in exactly two years time! The Keanu Reeves starrer franchise just released its third installment on May 17, and the news of the sequel arrived four days later on May 21.
The release date for the upcoming sequel and fourth installment of the 'John Wick' franchise was announced through a text message — the same service that revealed the first trailer for Chapter 3 of 'John Wick'. "You have served. You will be of service. 'John Wick: Chapter 4' is coming — May 21, 2021," revealed the content of the message.
Primarily an American neo-noir action thriller story that was created by Derek Kolstad, the franchise consists of action thriller films so far. Keanu Reeves stars as the eponymous character who happens to be a retired, but deadly hitman seeking vengeance. The plot for the fourth installment hasn't been released yet, but in an interview with Indie Wire, director of the last three parts Chad Stahelski revealed that no matter the story, the ending won't be a happy one.
The franchise was created by Kolstad, an American screenwriter, who had initially sold the script for 'John Wick' under the name 'Scorn', to Thunder Road Pictures. It was Reeves who had suggested to alter the name of the movie to the titular character after he agreed to star in the film in 2013.
Chad Stahelski had co-directed the first installment of the franchise in 2014 with David Leitch, and solo-directed the next two sequels, that is chapters 2 and 3. The stuntman-turned-director teased about the upcoming fourth part to Indie Wire, saying: "John may survive all this shit, but at the end of it, there's no happy ending. He's got nowhere to go."
The critically acclaimed Canadian actor and musician rose to fame for his performances in several blockbuster films. Known for his versatility in terms of genres, Reeves has starred in comedies like 'Bill and Ted' franchise (1989–1991), action thrillers 'Point Break' (1991), 'Speed' (1994), the 'John Wick' franchise (2014–2019), the psychological thriller 'The Devil's Advocate' (1997), supernatural thriller 'Constantine' (2005) and science fiction/action series 'The Matrix' (1999–2003).
The British actor is known for his television performances, especially as the lead in the BBC series 'Lovejoy' (1986–1994) and as Al Swearengen on the HBO series 'Deadwood'. He plays the role of Winston, the owner of the Continental Hotel, an establishment that functions as neutral territory for hired killers.
The trailer for the fourth installment isn't out yet. Watch this space for further updates!
