John Gilbert Getty’s cause of death ruled accidental fentanyl overdose that triggered heart and lung disease

John Gilbert Getty’s cause of death has been revealed. A post mortem has said that the 52-year-old died because of heart and lung disease after an accidental fentanyl overdose. The report came two months after the grandson of oil tycoon J Paul Getty was found dead with “eyes & mouth open in Indian style sitting pose” on November 20, 2020, at the luxury Hotel Emma in San Antonio, Texas. Bexar County Medical Examiner's Office told TMZ the heir died of cardiomyopathy -- a form of heart disease -- and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease complicated by fentanyl toxicity. His death was ruled an accident.

John died just a few months after his mother Ann Gilbert’s death, who lost her life because of a heart attack at the age of 79 in September. His brother Andrew died in Los Angeles in 2015. At the time, it was found he suffered intestinal bleeding. Initial reports after Andrew’s death said that it could have been a homicide, but the coroner later pronounced that the death "was not a criminal act." After the death of John in November last year, his father Gordon Getty issued a statement that read: “With a heavy heart, Gordon Getty announces the death of his son, John Gilbert Getty. John leaves behind his daughter, Ivy Getty, whom he loved beyond measure, and his brothers Peter and Billy. His brother, Andrew, predeceased John. John's mother, Ann Gilbert Getty, passed this September. John was a talented musician who loved rock and roll. He will be deeply missed."

His 25-year-old daughter, Ivy, also took to social media and wrote, “I hate to post something so soon, but people have taken it upon themselves to share the news I wish I could have released myself. I’ll write something better later... my father was awesome — coolest man to ever land on this planet and I will forever be the proudest daughter. Love you so much Dad....life is cruel sometimes... I have not one, but two guardian angels watching over me now..."

On her post, several people paid their tribute with one saying, “Ivy, I’m so deeply sorry for your loss. Sending lots of love to you & your family. Such lovely photos you have shared. You definitely have two guardian angels watching over you now.” “I’m heartbroken to hear this sending u all the love in the world,” the second one said while the third added: “Im so sorry for your Devastating loss Ivy And yes he will guide and watch over you. may he Rest In Peace and power.”

Meanwhile, a lot of internet users have expressed their thoughts over John’s cause of death. One person tweeted, “You can tell this happened just by looking at him.” Another one corrected the former by saying, “I hope no one looks at you and bases opinions like this. The poor man lost his family recently and had serious pre-existing conditions. Be kinder!” “I always was curious about his death. Hope his soul is resting now,” the third commented while the fourth user added: “This is on all of you a**holes that make drugs illegal instead of safe and available without a prescription from a pharmacy or dispensary. You aren’t stopping people from drugs, you are promoting death, violence, cartlels etc...It could be your kid someday.”
