In his forthcoming book titled “The Room Where It Happened: A White House Memoir,” the former National Security Advisor to the president Donald Trump, John Bolton, revealed that Trump had "pleaded" with China's Xi Jinping during a 2019 summit to help him in his re-election.

The bombshell book also states that Trump wanted China to buy agricultural produce from US farmers. Bolton has also accused the president of using his political calculations to make national security decisions. The Trump administration is furiously trying to block the publication of the book that is due to release on June 23 because it comprises "top secret" details, while the Department of Justice also said the book contains "classified information". The White House asked the federal court for an emergency temporary restrainer on the book's release to prevent the spread of allegations like the ones about China and Trump's efforts to seek political help from Ukraine, which led to a trial for his impeachment.

Bolton has also highlighted crucial claims from the president's impeachment trial in his book, which is a candid, untainted, first-hand account of what it is like working with Trump. In January, this year, the president was involved in an impeachment trial for having withheld military aid to pressurize Volodymyr Zelensky, the President of Ukraine into starting a corruption investigation into Democratic presidential candidate, Joe Biden and his son, Hunter. He denied the allegations and Trump was acquitted after a two-week trial, devoid of witnesses, in the Senate which is under Republican control. In the 577-page book, Bolton says the inquiry into his impeachment might have had a contrasting outcome if it had investigated into other instances of political interferences as well.

Following this revelation from the book, Joe Biden, tweeted: "Today, we learned from John Bolton, the President's former national security advisor, that President Trump sold out the American people to protect his political future. He reportedly directly asked Xi Jinping, China's leader, to help him get re-elected."

He added: "If John Bolton's accounts are true, it’s not only morally repugnant, it’s a violation of Donald Trump’s sacred duty to the American people to protect America’s interests and defend our values."

Bolton joined the White House as the president's aide in April 2018, but the left in September 2019, citing that he had decided to quit his role as the National Political Adviser. The president, however, made it clear that Bolton had been fired for he "strongly" disagreed with him. The responses on the revelations in Bolton's book have been rather mixed, with social media users condemning the author for not volunteering to disclose these details during the president's impeachment trial. Some have said he is just another resentful employee trying to make money from selling books, while others have repeatedly urged people not to buy the book upon its release.

"Reminder, John Bolton admitted in a 2010 interview that he would 'absolutely' lie to the public and knowingly spread false info if he believed it necessary. If it helps him sell his book & make $...then that’s what he will do. Sadly, Bolton can be bought," said a user, while Larry Sabato, Director, UV Centre for Politics concurred, "If you think the revelations in John Bolton’s book are shocking, just imagine what is going to come out after Trump leaves the White House. Every aide and maid will have mind-boggling stories to tell." Author, Majid M Pedellan added, "If John Bolton had testified at the impeachment trial, President Nancy Pelosi would be in the White House right now"

"John Bolton is a coward for not testifying during impeachment. But the s**t that’s in his book is what Senate Republicans covered up when they refused to hear from him," said Democratic strategist and Political advisor, Adam Parkhomenko, in a tweet. "Senate Republicans knew what John Bolton would say. They didn’t want you to hear it. Their undying loyalty to Donald Trump is a national security threat," asserted Joe Kennedy III, U.S. Representative for Massachusetts's 4th congressional district.

"John Bolton revealed Trump asked China’s President to help with his re-election, shared Trump’s belief that journalists who oppose him should be shot, and communicated he encouraged the making of concentration camps. The People deserve better. America deserves better," added Cooper Hefner, former CCO/CGO, Playboy. "If you only remember one thing, remember this: Don't buy John Bolton's book," Judd Legum, political writer at Popular Information urged through a tweet.
