Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden’s camp was ecstatic last week after the former vice president was found to be the winner of the television ratings 'war' against President Donald Trump. But a new survey now suggests that Biden’s overall lead over the incumbent has reduced to six points — the smallest margin in nearly two months. The Democrats, however, had more reason to be happy to see the Congressional election prediction as 49 percent of the respondents were in favor of backing the blue party as against 39 percent who wanted the GOP.

The Yahoo News-YouGov poll, which is the first public-opinion poll conducted since the conclusion of the Republican National Convention (RNC) held last week, found Biden having 47 percent backing while Trump had 41 percent. The survey was conducted last Thursday and Friday after Trump delivered his nomination speech at the RNC.

According to the poll, Trump’s support went up by 2.5 percent when seen in comparison to a survey made by Yahoo News-YouGov a month ago. That poll showed the 77-year-old was leading Trump by slightly less than nine points. The latest survey suggests that roughly 1 percent of the registered voters who spoke about backing Biden last month have now indicated that they will go for Trump.

The embattled president appeared confident of a victory in the November 3 elections as he tweeted a poll that predicted him to win the high-profile election — both nationally and in some battleground states. He said, "Moving along nicely. MAGA!" PollWatch cited Democracy Institute, Washington DC, claiming Trump would win the popular vote by 48-45 percent over Biden besides pocketing the contest in key states like Florida, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Iowa and Minnesota.

People felt convinced about Trump last month

The new Yahoo-YouGov poll also showed that a smaller number of respondents who previously hinted at staying aloof during the election are now saying they would vote for the president.

Explaining this shift of voters in Trump’s favor, the poll said: "The most pronounced change involved perceptions of the president’s 'strength'. Right before the RNC, 33 percent of Americans said Trump possessed this quality; right after, that number increased to 38 percent. Over the last month, the numbers of Americans saying Trump 'cares a lot about people like you' rose from 19 percent to 22 percent, while the percentage saying they like him 'a lot' or 'somewhat' rose from 24 percent to 28 percent. It’s possible that a handful of voters who now consider Trump stronger and more likeable than before have decided to vote for him as a result."

"Since late July Trump's job approval on Covid-19 has also increased slightly — from 38 percent to 40 percent — as the rate of growth in cases and daily death figures have been gradually declining. (Deaths now total over 180,000 and are growing at around 1,000 a day.)”

The poll said nearly every voter in America has made up his or her mind, with 96 percent Biden and Trump supporters saying they have decided who they will vote for. It was 2 percent more than what was found in late July.

Another poll, conducted by Morning Consult, also showed Trump trailing Biden by only six points since the conclusion of the RNC. It said Biden was leading Trump 50 percent to 44 percent among the likely voters following the convention. He was leading by 10 points (52-42) before the convention began.

Trump reduced Biden's lead among the suburbanites while his support among the White voters increased. His standing among the voters of color became worse.
