Joe Biden jumbles up speech, says 'we can only re-elect Donald Trump' despite reading from teleprompter
Joe Biden found himself at the receiving end of mockery and doubt on Saturday, March 7, after he jumbled up his speech in St Louis, Missouri, despite using a teleprompter. The Democratic presidential candidate, by mistake, said that they could only "re-elect Trump".
"You want a nominee that will bring this party together, who will run a progressive, positive campaign, and turn this primary from a campaign that’s about negative attacks into one about what we’re for because we cannot re-elect, we cannot win this re-election, excuse me, we can only re-elect Donald Trump if, in fact, we get engaged in this circular firing squad here," he said in his speech.
Saturday's mishap caught the eye of the Trump camp and was shared by White House social media director Dan Scavino, who posted a portion of the clip on Twitter, writing, “Sleepy Joe [sleeping symbol] in St. Louis, Missouri today: 'We can only re-elect @realDonaldTrump.' #KAG2020LandslideVictory”
Senior Trump Adviser Mercedes Schlapp also talked about the clip, taking to Twitter and saying, "It’s so bad!!!" Eric Trump said, sharing the video, "They are going to start hiding this guy… could you imagine being on his campaign – they must be mortified every time he takes the stage…"
Earlier when Biden took the stage in Los Angeles, he mistook his wife for his sister. "They switched on me," he had said. On Monday, in Texas, he messed up and forgot words of the Declaration of Independence and substituted "the thing" for "God".
"We hold these truths to be self-evident. All men and women created by the [pause, consternation, hands waving] go, you know, you know, the thing." Before that, he called Super Tuesday, "Super Thursday".
Many people have questioned Joe Biden's fitness as he campaigns for the highest political office in the country. He has previously undergone surgery for two brain aneurysms in 1988, although his doctor has said that he did not have any brain damage.
