As President-elect Joe Biden gave his final remarks in Delaware on January 19 before heading off to Washington, DC for his inauguration on January 20, the future commander-in-chief delivered an emotional speech to a small gathering thanking friends and family for all their support over the years. Beside him, his wife Jill Biden also appeared teary-eyed as she watched her husband's remarks, but didn't fail to make a statement with her purple ensemble.

Sporting a purple outfit ahead of Inauguration Day, the soon-to-be first lady wore a purple dress, coat and mask from New York-based designer Jonathan Cohen. Her clutch bag, which was from Tyler Ellis, also came in a bright purple shade.

The ensemble was accompanied by neutral footwear as Jill chose a suede pointed toe pump with a high stiletto heel to complete the look. It is reported that the design hails from Jimmy Choo brand's Love silhouette. She, along with President-elect Joe Biden, Vice President-elect Kamala Harris and future second gentleman Doug Emhoff, attended a Covid-19 memorial at Lincoln Memorial in Washington, DC, on January 19. The four were in the nation's capital on the eve of the inauguration where Biden and Harris will be sworn into office.

Wearing the purple color, Jill is presumed to be sending a message to the masses. In politics, purple is often thought to be a symbol of unity as it combines the Republican party's red motif and the Democratic party's blue color scheme. It also serves as a nod to the suffragette flag, supporting women’s right to vote.

And the Internet seems to have picked up on this message. "Jill Biden said she was the unifier-in-chief in this purple today. She clearly understands how to send a message... Red+Blue=Purple (unity) Loved Jill's look. Everything was done right. I do wonder if auntie Michelle helped. Countown to the Inauguration... we made it!!" a user tweeted wondering if former first lady Michelle Obama could have given her tips. Another user added it was a special day for fashion in politics. "Today was an exciting day for American fashion @DrBiden chose a purple wrap coat and dress from @JCohen_Studio, an American designer whose collections are reminiscent of his Mexican heritage (bold colors and textiles). Purple is what you get when red & blue are mixed together."

"Purple blends red and blue, its fire and water, passion and emotion, action and thought, strength and honesty all bundled into one. Purple maintains a connection with both the physical world and our soul, which makes it an excellent color to represent harmony and transformation," a follower tweeted to Jill.

Inauguration Day 2021 proceedings will commence on Wednesday, January 20, around 12 pm EST. The event will have performances from stars like Lady Gaga, who is set to sing 'The Star-Spangled Banner', alongside the likes of Garth Brooks, Jennifer Lopez, John Legend and more major names. The venue will have heightened security measures in place due to the increased threat of armed protests and riots across the country.
