Who is Jennifer Roberts? Mother delivers 2,500 masks to teachers from Covid-19 funds that were 'sitting' around
With Covid-19 cases surging with each passing day, the nation is still struggling to bring life back to normal. When a mother and remote learning advocate realized her daughter had to attend one of her classes in person, she was determined to make it safe. Jennifer Roberts turned an idea into reality within a few hours and helped teachers receive thousands of masks, that were lying unused otherwise.
It was only a matter of time before a virtual campaign provided the absolute necessities to several teachers, making school a safe place for them as well as the children. Thanks to Como Mask Bank, a new Facebook group started by Roberts on Monday, January 25.
Who is Jennifer Roberts?
According to KOMU 8 reports, Roberts is the mother of a high school student in the Columbia Public School District. “She is an advocate for remote-learning, but when she found out her daughter had to attend one of her classes in person, she knew it needed to be as safe as possible,” it states.
Apparently, her focus was on the school teachers. "I want every person that works in a school to have access to an N95, if they would like it.”
Roberts found a large number of masks from the Covid-19 Regional Relief Fund, where she said they were “sitting around” unused. She told the publication "I reached out to the Covid-19 Regional Relief Fund and John Baker to ask him, 'You know about funding for some masks for the teachers?'" "I didn't realize that we had masks just sitting around, which we did. And he absolutely thought they would be better on the faces of our teachers, you know, then than sitting in their boxes,” she added further.
Meanwhile, her gesture was met with gratitude as Roberts said the teachers were ecstatic about receiving them. “They feel the love, which is important. That was the goal,” she said.
Como Mask Bank supports the community
Facebook page Como Mask Bank actively shares posts about the availability of free masks along with safety measures to abide by to tackle Covid-19. A post was shared a few hours ago today, January 27, to thank all the participants who provided free masks to children and teachers.
The caption read, “Done and done! Thank you John Baker and Community Foundation of Central Missouri and the Covid-19 Regional Relief Fund. Teachers, we love you, stay safe!”
Another post consists of a picture of children’s masks and says they were donated were donate by Jan Hobbs. Roberts with the help of a few more was able to collect 2500 N95s for school staff and bud drivers by January 26. One of the Facebook posts also says that the followers can start donating masks in a few days to the bank, which will be used to buy more KN95s.
