'It was a f**king bonfire': Jennifer Grey of 'Dirty Dancing' recalls her affair with Johnny Depp
Jennifer Grey, the actress of 'Dirty Dancing', recently gave a fresh interview in which she recalled her previous relationship with Johnny Depp. She told People magazine while promoting her upcoming biography ‘Out of the Corner’, which is expected to be released on May 3, "There was some heat. It was a f**king bonfire. It was literally like, 'Are you fucking kidding me? Are you fucking kidding me? I've never seen a guy like this.'"
Grey and Depp dated for roughly a year after her split from Matthew Broderick. According to The New York Times, Broderick and Grey were involved in a car accident in Ireland in 1987, the year Dirty Dancing' was released. She recently told the New York Times, "We were so young. And there's not a week that goes by that I don't think about it. That I don't think about the families. That I don't think about Matthew. It's just in me. It's part of my topographical map, the landscape of my life."

Their love couldn't withstand the trauma, so Grey moved on to Depp, whom she claimed to have met through her agent. She wrote in her memoir, "If a mirage could have been a person in the summer of 1988, that mirage would have been Johnny Depp. “And energetically, what it was like being with him, it was like, 'Oh, I'm being totally, totally compensated for the shit I just went through,” she told People, referring to the car accident with Broderick. Grey said in her book that they were two weeks into their relationship when Depp proposed to her and she accepted. She told that they were frequently twinning and wore matching leather jackets, adding, "On August 12, I wrote in my journal, 'I'm in love, pretty sure for the first time in my life ... He's kind, funny, smart, moral, thoughtful, respectful.'"
However, their relationship lasted for only nine months. Grey admitted that as Depp's career progressed and he became more famous, he also became more restless, which ultimately affected their relationship in a wrong way. Grey claimed in her memoir that she ended her relationship with Depp with a note she placed in his hotel room. After the split from Depp, Grey eventually married actor Clark Gregg. After 19 years together, the couple broke up last year. Meanwhile, Depp went on to have other high-profile relationships, including those with Winona Ryder and Kate Moss.
Meanwhile, Depp has been in court recently for a defamation trial he filed against his ex-wife Amber Heard.
Heard said in a 2018 op-ed that, "like many women, I had been harassed and sexually assaulted by the time I was of college age. But I kept quiet — I did not expect filing complaints to bring justice. And I didn't consider myself a victim. Then two years ago, I became a public figure representing domestic abuse, and I felt the full force of our culture’s wrath for women who speak out.” While Depp was not named in the post, his legal team claims it bears a clear implication that Depp is a domestic abuser, which they claim is ‘categorically and demonstrably false.’ Depp is seeking not less than $50 million in damages. Heard has also filed a $100 million lawsuit against Depp for nuisance and immunity from his claims.
